Book Description

Not just another overview book on endocrinology,How the Endocrine System Works presents a humorous and highly informative collection of nine easy-to-digest "lectures" discussing the fundamental workings of the endocrine system in health and disease.

This absorbing addition to the "How it Works" series provides a concise and scientifically reliable introduction to endocrinology without the use of broad glossary terms and extraneous detail that can make a text hard to follow. This book focuses on function rather than anatomy and definition, so that you can reach an appreciation and a clearer understanding of this intricate system.

Students will find this book to be the perfect introduction to their entry-level courses, as well as a quick review for exams. Professionals will enjoy the simple approach to a complex topic, and the general reader will satisfy a basic curiosity about the glands and hormones of the human body.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction of that wonderful system, July 6, 2010
This review is from: How the Endocrine System Works (Paperback)
WARNING!!!!! THIS IS AN INTRODUCTORY BOOK TO THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM AND IS NOT TO BE TAKEN AS A COMPLETE OVERVIEW OF IT!!!!!

For the beginning student, this is a great book to use and may prove to be invaluable when you take that first step into the bigger world of the endocrine system. It helps to give you a good understanding out how it works and builds a good base for other knowledge to be built upon. Keep in mind, this is not designed to be a complete course or to teach you everything that is known about it. It's an outline explaining what it is, how it works, and some of the finer intricacies of it. If you buy it expecting it to be this amazing, tell all manual in a small, easily manageable package, then you're sorely mistake.

I recommend this book for beginners that are just learning, or for people who want to brush up on some of the basics. I think this is a useful book to have, however if you want to look for yourself, Amazon.com has the option to view some of the pages. Give it a glance and make up your own mind about how well you know the system and if this manual can be useful or not. For some it'll work great, for others it will be terrible. Just do a little research before purchasing.

This review is from: How the Endocrine System Works (Paperback)
The endocrine system is a complicated business. This book can be read by a student, or interested lay person, if only to get an overview of how the
endocrine system works and when it fails to function properly. The reader
can find out what diabetes and high cholesterol means. I was somewhat bothered by the detail.
