This is my first dog door and I must say I am impressed. I have two beagles that go in and out 50 times a day and have no problem with it. It seals nicely and the magnets seem to be the right strenght. I have a carpenter friend who put it in and said this is the best quality dog door he has ever installed and has says he's installed a bunch. It took him about 2.5 hours for installation total. I helped him guide and align the screws into the threaded outside frame from the inside frame. I think this would be difficult for one person to do, but not impossible.

The only dissapointment I had with this sales transaction is that the Seller's add said it was "In Stock", but it was not. The seller had to go back to the manufacturer which had back orders for them. It took about two weeks to get the door when, like I said, the add on Amazon said "In Stock" and I was counting on receiving it sooner. The seller had no response when I communicated I was dissatisfied over that untruthful information. I called the manufacturer and apparently they can't manufacture them fast enough.

Mine has been in for a month now and I really enjoy the freedom of not having to open my back door a gazillion times a day. I'm very happy with this product and highly recommend it.

I love this dog door. I actually ordered mine straight from the manufacturer, however the price is the same here.

Installation wasn't too difficult. My home is fairly new so an exterior wall consists of drywall/moisture barrier/insulation/foamboard/vinyl siding. So basically all I had to do was remove the siding, cut a whole through drywall/foamboard. I also used a 2X6 to reinforce the bottom of the dog door/make a frame (this is recommended with the larger models, as a dogs weight needs to be supported). I then cut new siding/installed j-channeling around the outside of the dog door. Overall, it was a very easy project. It took me all day, however that was only because I hadn't used some of my tools in a while and had to re-assemble my table saw/buy some other supplies.

The only issue I had was that there was an electric line in the wall and it was "just" high enough I was able to get the dog door in without having to rewire everything. I used a 1x6 to make a barrier between the dog door/the electric line. You may also run into this problem as the door is tall enough (mine is actually 10X20, not 10X18) that you could hit an electric line. Electricians tend to put run them through studs such that they are off the floor, but below the height that people tend to hang things (pictures, etc.). So be careful. Don't just jam your drywall saw all the way through/make a deep cut or you could be in for a nasty surprise (its hard to pinpoint exactly where an AC wire with a through the wall detector). Even better, cut the circuit breaker to whatever room you are installing it in.

I bought this door to replace my old (Ruff) doggie door. I wanted a low profile door to go with the new siding on the house. This new door has better seals along the edges and bottom. Bottom magnets are stronger than the old door. Which is good since this door is in the wall from my kitchen to the backyard. No more drafts.

The flaps are stiffer than the clear rubber flaps on the Ruff Dog Door. The new flaps are in 3 sections and are thicker/harder, but bend at the joints. My 70lbs dog wasn't too sure about this new door, but with some training and 1-2 days of patients, she is fine with it now. She just doesn't bolt out the dog door like she used to.

Installation: the Siding dudes installed for me, I installed my original door. I did not look too difficult. Template is provided. Watch what you cut through. This door almost matched up with my last door. Some cutting was needed on the metal insert that came with this door. Also, this door has a dip in-between the two flaps. My dog didn't like stepping down into that on her first step into the door. I took a 2x4 cut about 10 inches to fit between the flaps. Now it's smooth across the bottom. Seems to be better.

The quality seems to be of good quality. My old door lasted 4-5 years before I had to replace the flaps only. This door seems like I wont have to replace these flaps ever...or not in the next ten years or so.

For training your dog to use this door, you might want to tape one flap up (probably your inside door) and let your dog get use to open one flap at a time. My dog would stop when the first flap hit the second flap...the magnets hold the flaps in place pretty well.

Glad I purchased this door. It's a little expensive but you can tell it's better quality and won't break for years to come.

Outstanding product. Fast shipping. I could not be happier with this purchase. My previous door was drafty and the wind was always blowing the door open. This door has a tight seal and although my dog was resistant for the first few days he now has no issue using the door. Installation took about three hours, directions were easy to follow and everything fit perfectly. Don't let the price scare you. You are getting a great product for the money.
