One of the most important books ever written, March 12, 2009
This review is from: Enemies: The Clash of Races (English and English Edition) (Paperback)
I remember reading this book for the first time about 15 years ago. I was working for Corporate America, wanting badly to be assimilated and accepted by my white coworkers and management. Deep down, I knew I was disrespecting myself by seeking acceptance from those who had already judged me. I realized that most blacks are tolerated at best, despised at worst. And that this judgment by whites had nothing to do with who or what I was, but had everything to do with what kind of human beings they were.
Then, one day, I borrowed this book from my sister. I felt like something in me had been awakened. This one book made me turn in a different direction, and off the path of psychological self-destruction. It hasn't been easy because it's difficult to be mentally healthy in a black-hating, white-supremacist society.
I have watched the psychological decline of many black friends and family and the ones most destroyed seemed to be the ones who are caught between two worlds (white and black), and trying to fit into both, at the cost of their self-respect.
To cut to the chase, this book tells the straight truth (no chaser) about blacks and whites, something too many black (and white) people do their best to avoid.
What they do not understand is truth may be painful, but it is the truth that makes you strong. In other words...
I highly recommend this book!
