5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book From Kay Hooper!
I've read a number of Kay Hooper's books, and this one is just as great as every other one I've read. It's got the same elements are the other works that I loved, the romance, the suspense, the action, et cetera. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in less than 8 hours. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who has ever read...

2.0 out of 5 stars Silly
This is the first Kay Hooper book for me. I didn't know quite know what to expect, but I didn't expect downright silly. A gorgeous young woman with a magnificent figure and a handsome young man with a hairy chest, bitter rivals, are after the same ancient chalice in Colombia. They have competed for other ancient artifacts all over the world, we learn, and while they...

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fun read from Kay Hooper, December 17, 2009

This review is from: Enemy Mine (Paperback)
This was another fun read from Kay Hooper. This is a romantic novel through and through. It does have some mystery and suspense but mostly the whole book is about the struggle Kane and Tyler's love for one another. The only thing that is annoying about the book is the romantic conflict the couple have after they have already given themselves to each other. Tyler "feels" like a serious relation won't happen even though she loves him and Kane doesn't push Tyler to love him because he is so scared in losing her. I see this repeatedly in romance novels It's so annoying especial when the male character will communicate what he actually wants. For example "I want to be with you and get to know you." The female usually translates that to "I just want to have casual sex with you. I don't want strings attached." Gosh do women really think like this? On the other hand I like reading books like these because it is far from reality and they always end "Happily Ever After" Other than that slight annoyance, it is a fun read. I read it in two days and couldn't put it down because it is a fun story.

2.0 out of 5 stars Silly, February 24, 2008

This is the first Kay Hooper book for me. I didn't know quite know what to expect, but I didn't expect downright silly. A gorgeous young woman with a magnificent figure and a handsome young man with a hairy chest, bitter rivals, are after the same ancient chalice in Colombia. They have competed for other ancient artifacts all over the world, we learn, and while they don't trust each other for a second, they are drawn together by lustful urges. Oh my, yes.

That's the nub of it. He gets captured by a group of bandits, led by a beautiful seductress bent upon raping him and is saved just in time. They meet another competitor in the jungle, just like that. And on and on. It's all downright silly, the adventure, the quest, the lust, the romance, if that's what you call it. I liked the Indiana Jones movie series, and there are elements of that here. But Indiana Jones was campy fun, and I suspect the author wants the reader to take this book seriously. I couldn't.

There's plenty of lust and tasting and all that sort of thing. But there is nothing here that should convince the reader of reality, of possibility, of honesty. Maybe I'll try another Hooper book to see if it gets any better. It couldn't get much sillier.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked this - but definitely a light read, July 7, 2009
This review is from: Enemy Mine (Kindle Edition)
The author describes this book as a "romantic adventure". It is the story of Tyler and Kane who work for two rival collectors. Tyler and Kane also have their own rivalry going on. The two end up having to team up in order to find the latest artifact their employers want. And of course, along the way they end up falling in love.

I liked this book but didn't love it. However, for some reason I feel compelled to give it 4 stars instead of 3. Even though the secondary characters weren't great (although I liked contessa) the writing draws you it - or at least it drew me in. You can see some of the writing style that Hooper uses in her more recent books, however the feel of this one is much lighter without the darker undertones of the SCU series. Fans of the newer books - be warned this is a MUCH earlier novel, and it shows. However, still a decent short read (only took me about an hour).

I loved this book, the storyline was great, I love the way some writers can get you to feel the emotion written on the page, not all writers can do that. For me the story worked.

Im always surprised this book and the Haviland Touch arent mention more often. They were both great reads, very entertaining. Light but the characters were fun and their personalities were well sussed out. I would tell anyone who likes Kay Hoopers novels to get this book
