Shallow and stupid,
This review is from: Enemy of My Enemy (Paperback)
Wow, was this book ever dumb. The characters are all stupid, some more so than others. The protagonists, while naive and shallow, are the least stupid so they get to 'outsmart' the bad guys...I think. I couldn't finish the book, but that's the way it was headed. The narrative is extremely flat and predictable without much descriptive detail. Honestly, it reminds me of a freshman writing project more than a spy 'thriller'. I hope to god the real spies are smarter than this book describes, or we're all doomed!

This was an excellent spy novel, right up there with Daniel Silva. I really look forward to more novels by Mr. Topol.

This review is from: Enemy of My Enemy (Paperback)
Topol keeps the pages turning quickly. A U.S. pilot from a family well connected to the President is shot down and taken hostage by a rogue Turkish general who comes up with an incredible plan involving Syria,Iran, Israel and nuclear weapons obtained from a former Russian military czar. Plenty of excitement and even a bit of romance as things quickly evolve. Top notch.

A rogue Turkish military official who is collaborating with Syrians, eh?!!!
1. Turkey has never been, and still is not, on friendly terms with Syria. 2. There are no rogue military officials in Turkey. Let alone the Turkish government, Turkish military, which has been accused by the highly democratic western countries of having too much influence on politics, is not very fond of Syria, if you know what I mean. 3. Turkey has been collaborating with Israel for the last 6-7 years on intelligence, military technology and defence industries. There are billions of dollars worth of military projects running between the two countries. The primary objective of this cooperation is actually the hostile environment surrounding the Turkish mainland, such as Iran and Syria. 4. I don't need to remind that Turkey is a NATO member, right? 5. I know that Turkey hurt the feelings of Americans by not allowing the US troops to use the Turkish mainland to enter Iraq from north. But this was a democratic parliamentary decision, something for which the US has always encouraged the Turks. It was not a decision of some dictator-like regime, neither was it a one-man show to prove the world that Turks could say no to the US. So, what is wrong???? This book smells like revenge, no? 6. Do we have here something like a psychological warfare against an ally? If so, I find this extremely arrogant and unjust. I heard that the TV show "24 the series", in its last season, has also come up with a scenario depicting a Turkish-American family as a sleeper terrorist cell. Well done!!! I don't know what to say... Go ahead and brainwash the US public with these kind of so-called novels and TV shows. Maybe someday, you will understand that this is not the way how things work out...
