Enemy at the Door-Series 2,

This review is from: Enemy at the Door - Series 2 (DVD)
This set continues the series that is a must watch for everyone. Not only do you feel the deprivations, hardships, and fears of the Islanders (from Guernsey), but you understand that all the Germans in WWII were not the same. Because the island is self-contained, it's almost as though you can understand the ramifications of what it would have been like if Germany had won this war. You also feel what it's like to be "occupied". In spite of this oppression, one also comes to respect some of the German officers, and sees the progression of the occupying SS officer's downfall into pure evil as he makes choices that hurt everyone, but most of all himself. My husband and I could not stop watching this and feel it is one the most eye-opening, thought-provoking series we have ever seen. We're hoping there is a series 3. Watch this(after you have seen series 1)-you can't go wrong.

This was one of the best series on World War II that I have ever seen. The characters showed that there were good and bad people on both sides. The complex issues of dealing with the occupying forces along with the daily one of getting enough food and keeping warm and prevention of diseases in a weakened population was was certainly realistic. Excellent!

As dumb as this sounds, I did not realize Britain owned the islands portrayed in the film, much less the fact they were occupied during the war. Best World War II shows I've seen in ages. When is Series 3 coming out?

Is there a third series and if so when is it coming out?
Enemy at The Door shows the complex and human side of the Nazis occupation of the Chanel Islands. The entire series is compelling viewing and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in WW2 in the European Theatre.

A Brit WWII epic comparable to `Foyle's War' which set the 6-star standard. Foyle lived in a town waiting to be invaded. In "Enemy at the Door" the people of Guernsey were actually occupied by the Nazi forces. The channel island became a prison camp ruled by Nazi fear. Very compelling dramatic portrayals of what probably took place.
"Enemy at the Door 2" begins already 3 years into the war. In June, 1940, Guernsey, received occupying German forces. The Nazis planned the next step to be mainland invasion, but what did the Guernsey locals do? This is a continuation of "Enemy at the Door: Series 1" (highly recommended.) Each of 13 episodes (50 min) are like a stand-alone story about living on this occupied island, amidst the fears of war, yet having to learn to live with and under an enemy force. Stories surrounding the lives of locals create both exciting and heartbreaking plots. Loves, interaction, hateful attacks, prison, death, it's all there. VERY UN-PREDICTABLE, as real war life. The occupation really happened, the DVD is drama, the result is heart-pounding believable, almost documentary. Many locals have mixed feelings, some must walk the fine line between helping the Nazi command and looking out for the needs of the island's inhabitants during the occupation. Many lean on the defiant side of the line. Island doctor, Philip Martel (Branard Horsfall), reluctantly takes a role on the local committee to work with the enemy command in hopes it will advance fair treatment for the Guernsey population. Actions lead to imprisonment. Complications of 2 sides caught in an unwanted situation makes this series believable. An eye-opener for those never experiencing war. Defiance/survival tension for those under the occupation force. Not your normal WWII drama. You hate the German force in one episode and feel compassion for a Nazi officer in another. Emotional & enough connection by main characters to tie together all episodes. "Enemy at the Door" explains cohabitation and interaction between people during war, NOT the military war itself. A further look at the events of the channel island Nazi occupation come with the 6-episode (398 min) "Island at War". It's like adding another series to this. It is equally arresting viewing and comes in a package of British WWII tales. "WARTIME BRITAIN" also adds "Housewife 49" (93 min) and "The Heat of the Day". 3-in-1 pack, all European front WWII, all worth viewing. My wife and I were surprised to find this historical drama quite addicting. Very believable situations and human reaction make "Enemy at the Door" a recommended viewing. Both Series ONE & TWO.

I would consider myself almost an authority on WW2 movies having to watch them when I was a kid with my brother and now with my husband.
This Series 2 of Enemy at the Door, and also Series 1 were among some of the best I have viewed, too bad they didn't continue the series up until the germans had to leave the island.

I have been a fan of the DVD series that acorn media has made available. This, unquestionably, is the best of the series. I watched both Series One and Two almost continuously and was thoroughly entertained. My only disappointment was that there is not currently a series three available to continue the saga. It is now a close tie between Foyle's War and Enemy at the Door regarding which was the better of the series. I believe that it is a dead heat. I hope that more episodes are forthcoming.

My sole objection was that the German characters were so "British" -the producers should have used German actors with subtitles-speaking to each other in German, and to the Islanders in German accented English. Will there be a Series 3? Seems not-I think the 2 Series go back to the 1970s.

The series seems reasonably interesting till the turn at the start of series two when Claire Martel, the most interesting character, the feisty one who seemed to be the only one to understand that the Germans were the enemy, becomes catatonically depressed because she killed one of them in series one. The most undramatic, uninteresting thing the script writers copuld have done. Turned me off the series altogether.
