1.0 out of 5 stars Don't EVER use Energizer UPS!, August 9, 2005
This review is from: Energizer UPS Battery Backup (ER-OF800) (EROF800) (Electronics)
I own an Energizer UPS I've used for 2 years (which apparently is actually a Technuity product that's branded Energizer). During several incidents where power flicked off and back on, the Energized failed to even preserve power. This morning a lightning storm knocked out my Samsung SyncMaster 170MP even though the Energizer was supposed to be covering it! After this, the unit still responds to USB monitoring and passes power through fine, it just doesn't protect anything. Energizer wants me to ship their unit to them, AT MY EXPENSE, before they'll even respond to the claim. You can be sure I won't buy as much as a watch battery from this company again.

I have an APC UPS unit covering my server, and it has never failed for a second during any incident, and I bought it the same day I bought the Energizer for my PC.

1.0 out of 5 stars Possible the WORST UPS being sold, September 9, 2008

Stay away from this UPS. Nothing positive about this UPS can be said.

I have 4 UPS units in my house, all APC, all reliable. I bought this for my Mom since it was cheaper and she didn't want to spend that much. I'm not sure if it ever protected her equipment or provided backup power. But I am sure that hers is now dead (less than 2 years old).

Add to that that it does not have shutdown software for Mac OS X or Linux and you have a real stinker of a UPS here.

It also seems that Energizer contracted out support and the support contract got sold to Audiovox. They seem nice, but you better have your receipt, or else no warranty!

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awful, September 3, 2008

If anyone is still selling this...STAY AWAY.
I agree with the above reviews, at least I could use
the battery in an older APC unit.

I owned this battery for almost a year and a half before it randomly shut down: it briefly announced a power failure and then everything downstream was offline in seconds. There was no prior indication of a problem. The battery now doesn't even function as a power strip, and doesn't offer any information to the monitoring software. It's dead.

I've been less than impressed with this battery ever since I saw it on sale and decided to give it a try, though: The whole product struck me as firmly second-rate even before the inevitable APC comparison. The questionable software is only available for windows desktops, which is completely crazy given how less popular windows is in the soho space every month.

And now I will compare it with APC. I have an APC unit I bought a year earlier. It's monitored by my soho linux backup/pbx/fileserver/etc box, and its data are graphed for me easily in a 5-minute setup. I know what's happening, when it happens, I'm paged on power events and I have complete confidence that the APC product will do exactly as it's supposed to. This Energizer unit, purchased to protect my equipment from randomly shutting down, *caused* my equipment to randomly shut down. I'm hearing that this kind of behaviour isn't isolated to my unit.

If you need something to work in the very short-term, you may get a season out of this unit. I need a product of much higher quality, and APC will continue to support my important gear while I test equipment from competitors other than Energizer.
