I returned it, EVEN spoke to them on the phone, gave them the product #, and they STILL sent me back the same charger.

The charger works great, and I enjoy having ability to charge eight AA rechargeable batteries at the same time.

This charger is great. It charges multiple batteries of various sizes, at the same time. I had a Duracell Rapid Charger that charged either 4 AA or 4 AAA at once, but it never charged them to capacity. In my opinion, this charger has already paid for itself. When the batteries are near peak, it trickles to top them off, then shuts down the unit to save money on powering the device. Very smart tech used in this charger and now my batteries last twice as long. I would recommed this to anyone that uses lots of rechargable batteries for gaming or other devices, because it works and is very effecient. I have saved so much money with rechargable batteries, that makes it worth the extra money they cost up front. Kudos to Energizer for making such a great product.

I have been using the CHFC2 for several months to charge my Energizer Rechargeable C batteries for my game camera with great success. However, when I recently used it to charge my Energizer Rechargeable AA batteries, things did not go so well. My wife detected a burning odor, which we traced to the unit. The unit had overheated and melted!

This unit is supposed to handle all battery sizes,

When I contacted the seller (The Price Pros) for a return, they would not address the problem since the unit was more than 30 days old. Not very good for an obvious defect!

I have since contacted Energizer, and I look forward to their response.

Update 9/16/12: It took about two weeks for Energizer to contact me asking that I send the defective recharger back to them. Several months later, I received a check from them to cover the replacement of the batteries and the charger. That's satisfactory.

I have 2 of the older versions of this charger (circa 2009-2012). Love 'em. Bought a 3rd to charge all my batteries faster (I have >50 NiMH batteries of various sizes up to 2700mAh for photography). But alas, Energizer changed the design. With the old version, you could just drop the batteries in and closing the lid snugged the charging contacts onto the battery terminals. With this version, however, the 4 charging contact ends are spring-loaded in the 'closed' position so you have to slide them back with one hand, hold them open, then slip each battery in with your other hand and release the charging contacts to meet the battery terminals. And finally, adjust the batteries in the cradles so they make good contact. Very awkward and cumbersome. Kinda' doubting Energizer tested this new design with focus groups! And because of the counterforce involved prying open the contacts, I seriously doubt it will last as long as the other two (which are still working fine), as the plastic mechanisms will surely give way under that stress.

The LED display is easy to read (easier than its predecessor) and the overall design is a bit streamlined. The lid also opens sideways instead of up/down, which, if you're adding this to a master charging station (like I did) might require a change in your layout. It charges consistently and evenly and doesn't heat up with 2700+ mAh batteries, nor does it heat up the batteries.

If this is your first Energizer Family Charger, you might like it. Personally, I'll be looking elsewhere for a 4th charger.

Bought the charger since we use a lot of rechargeable batteries for my daughter's toys, flash lights, and remote controls. It has worked great and charges them quickly. No complaints here.

I bought this too and had a fire smell coming from it. It was mainly used to charge the batteries for the Wii remote (AA). I probably used this about 40 Times before I came into my room one day to smell electrical wires burning. The batteries were HOT and I noticed that when I closed the lid when no batteries were in that it would show as if batteries were in there and would read "BAD". I called the Energizer company (Tel: 800-383-7323) and gave them the model number which is CHFC for this listing and he asked for the battery info (Not brand. I guess he assumed they were energizer) the "MA" which I told him my batteries read : 200ma . He took my address and phone and in 10 days I should receive a prepaid sticker to send the unit back and the technicians will review and go from there. Total time on the phone was 5min. The reason for my review:

    Obviously dangerous and number two:
I was searching for a new charger and read the bad reviews on this one to find my issue was like the other reviewers. Before reading the reviews I was going to just toss it and buy another.Since finding out the danger of it hoping this model gets a recall to save others (homes/children/people ect.) I encourage you to take 5min out of your life for the ones who didn't review and send this back, your money is hard earned, don't just toss it like I was about to. I didn't know I could send this back until now. I provided the phone number and Model number for your convenience. Please call Energizer if you have this issue. They will want the unit back so hold onto it.

I bought one of these before I really knew better. If you are going to use rechargeable batteries, get yourself a good quality charger with independent slots. Chargers like this one have all of their slots linked (though the 9 volts are separate from the AA/AAA in this model). When one battery gets full, the entire charger stops charging leaving the other 3 incomplete.

Furthermore, this charger only gives you the ability to top off the charge. A good charger will allow you to perform a top off charge and at the very least a Forming Charge/Break In. I suggest a Higher end La Crosse or Powerex charger instead of anything made by Energizer. You can still use Energizer brand batteries.
