During and after Hurricane Sandy this little light was the one I depended on, even though I had a variety of other lanterns and lights. It kept on lighting for hours on one charge. I sometimes left it on by accident and it didn't lose its light except for that one time I left it on all night, and it was handy to be able to slip it into a pocket. It has a red indicator light to show it is charging, which is nice. I also liked the fact that I could choose two different light settings. When I didn't need a strong light I used the low setting to conserve the charge. Otherwise, I turned it to "high". I sometimes abused this flashlight, using its base to snuff out burning wicks (we get a little unruly during these emergency situations), but it was none the worse for it.
Highly recommend.

I wanted a power failure light like my Black & Decker SafetyLite, which is no longer manufactured. That is plugged into an electrical socket and when the power fails, the light goes on.

I thought this Energizer was the same type of thing, because the description says: "automatically turns on when your power shuts down."

It has three switch settings: On, Off/charge, and Nightlight/charge. This is somewhat confusing. (There is no owner's manual or info on the packaging.) Going by clues someone posted about another Energizer product, I deduced that if you want a power failure light with the features I want, you set this in On. Then plug it in and the light goes off, but (hopefully) it is recharging. It is confusing that the first setting is On vs. On/charge like the others.

Otherwise, it feels like flimsy, very lightweight plastic, and the pull out plug tends to collapse when you're plugging it into the socket. Also you have to position it carefully so that the top does not touch the wall. I've had lights get too warm and so I am concerned that if it is in contact with the wall that would be a fire hazard.

This feels sufficiently cheezy that I am not too happy with it. I prefer electrical products that seem more robust.
