5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says (works great with a 3g iPhone)
Its very small, very light, and very affordable, and gives you just enough power for the times when you find yourself "stuck" without a power source.

It takes about 3-4 hours to charge up VIA a USB cable/port.

My test was this. I used my iPhone until it was down to a 45% charge. I then installed the XP1000. It was able to charge the phone (off) up...

1.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy connecter snapped off
The connector on the battery to which you attach the cable snapped off with moderate pressure. I "autopsied" the dead battery and found the way the connecter was attached to the circuit board was totally flimsy.

I would advise looking for a more reliable rechargeable battery.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!! THE CONNECTOR FOR THE CABLE BROKE OFF THE BOARD FOR NO REASON!! NOT GOOD QUALITY!!, December 6, 2010
This review is from: Energizer XP1000 Universal Rechargeable Power Pack with 1000 mAh Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
It all started out when I thought it would be cool to purchase an Energizer energi to go (as listed above) I purchased it at Staples for 20 dollars. I bought two of them. I was unhappy that each one of them only charge my smartphone to a max of 75% from empty. But then one day (today) I had put it in my pocket like I usually do before I go to school, come home and pick it out of my pocket, the micro usb connector used to connect to my phone was broken and fallen out, and the little button used to test the battery level was fallen out.

see you connect a little cable to the device and to what you want to charge. that little "port" was broken and in my hand right from my pocket.

I WAS STUNNED!
AND VERY PISSED AND STILL AM!!

do not buy this under any condition.

but if you mus buy this, I do recommend the energizer energi to go XP2000 model... remember the higher the model the better the quality, this one is the basic of basic.

So I have contacted support, but they weren't available so I guess I'll find out everything when they contact me. I did leave them a message.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad connector design - Don't buy this, December 14, 2010

My son purchased this battery for his phone.

The connector where the cable enters broke.

It is a poor design. I would not recommend this unit.

I looked at it and it cannot be soldered back onto the board.

I tried JB weld and that did not work either.

It held the connector but I did not get an electrical contact.

Had to throw it away. I will not be wasting my money on another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says (works great with a 3g iPhone), May 12, 2010

It was able to charge the phone (off) up too 100% in about 40 min. I then turned the phone on, played a graphically intense game for 20 min - and it still showed it was charging the phone. I made a call (5 min), and then went on Facebook for about 10 min - only then did the charger "turn off" (ie, ran out of power) - however the phone still showed a 100% charge. The unit is recharged by any USB computer or charger port.

There is a power-test button so you can tell if its charged before use - this button is next to the micro USB output. When charging the LED shows red. Once fully charged, its green.

The unit came with a small velvet pouch, a cable, 4 tips, and booklet. The tips are a micro Nokia tip, A micro USB, standard mini USB, iPhone/Ipod adapter (I also tested it with a standard 30Gb 3rd Gen iPod video.. charged that unit as well).

I plan to register so I can keep up to date with new (free!) tips. What a great idea!

See pics for size and details.

If your looking for a little extra boost without the bulk (this thing is about the size of 4 credit cards stacked..)

3.0 out of 5 stars Portable Personal Electronic Device Battery Recharger, October 10, 2010

Do not expect complete recharge capability for your portable electronic device from this product! This device is OK for short duration charging. It provides enough of a recharge when away from conventional sources. It does this well enough and the price is fair for that!

3.0 out of 5 stars Serves Its Purpose But Specs are Misleading, January 8, 2011

This battery charges quickly (after the initial charge) and includes a few common tips. This is great for a cheap emergency backup while away from an outlet or when you forget your charger. I used it to give my LG Ally a boost while I was away from home and forgot my charger. It charged from 9% to 39%, or gave a 30% charge in other words.

Therein lies the problem. The battery in my LG Ally is rated for 1500mAh. Granted the phone was powered on in standby, but that means that the XP1000 has a much smaller capacity than 1000mAh. So, we can assume that it has roughly a capacity of around 500mAh, maybe just a little more.

Nice for emergencies but apparently most of the manufacturer's products have half of the claimed capacity. If I know this beforehand, I would have bought the XP4000 model because that would provide around 2000mAh and would be a little more than enough to give my phone a full charge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for emergency power, September 13, 2010

This review is from: Energizer XP1000 Universal Rechargeable Power Pack with 1000 mAh Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I purchased this because I was going on a trip to San Francisco, and I knew I'd be using my iPhone a lot for directions and finding places to eat. Adding to that, it only has about 12 hour standby life (it's a 1st gen iPhone). I got the charger just in case I ran out of power mid-day.

I actually purchased this at Target the night before and charged it up. First impressions, this thing is TINY. It's only as big as a few credit cards stacked and can easily fit in your pocket. I wanted to get a larger charger, but batteries are heavy and I wasn't carrying a backpack, so I opted for this one.

The day I landed in San Francisco, this had already come in handy. It was 4 p.m. and as I expected, the battery had drained to 20% . I plugged it into the XP1000 and it started charging instantly. I was able to achieve a 80% charge, which was more than enough to get me through the rest of the night.

While it doesn't provide a full charge, it's not an issue for me. My iphone doesn't last me through the day, but with this external battery pack, it provided me with enough power to last until I got back to the hotel.

This charger is great for emergency power in a small package, but definitely not for power users.

PS. This will NOT charge iPads. I tried.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK for back-up but not a solution for fully charging the phone, August 8, 2010

The Enrgizer XP1000 is easy to use and great when your phone is about to die. It was capable of recharging my Blackberry BOLD 9000 from zero to about 2 out of 5 bars on the battery meter. This product is good if you need a few extra bars of battery to make it home. It is NOT powerful enough to charge the entire battery ont he Blackberry BOLD 9000.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for HTC EVO, May 16, 2011
This review is from: Energizer XP1000 Universal Rechargeable Power Pack with 1000 mAh Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
The Energi to Go is a lifesaver when you are on the go. My HTC EVO is an awesome phone, but a serious battery hog and has (inevitably) run out when I'm running errands or heading out. The times I've hit cell battery going empty are when I'm not by the wall charger or car charger long enough for a decent recharge.

The Energi to Go is about the size of a credit card, and as thick as about 3 stacked credit cards. I can now have my phone being charged in my purse while out and about.

Before your first phone charge, you need to charge the Energi to Go. My initial charge of the pack was about 3 hours, via USB to my computer. It's about 2& 1/2 hours when the pack is completely depleted of charge.

If I have just below a 1/2 charge on my EVO I can get the full EVO battery charged. So, figure about 1/2 phone charge before draining the Energi to Go, which is enough for me. I usually have my charger at home, work and car but the car charger is moot unless you are in plugged in 30 straight minutes at the minimum. So, no quick stops, gas ups, etc.

The Energi to Go came with the Energi to Go battery pack, charger cord (Via USB only, not wall or car), a little velveteen bag to keep the charger and needed cord together and several adapters including the right adapter for my phone. If you register your Energi to Go on the Energizer site, you get a 3 year warranty and 2 free adapters for the life of the pack. So, if I switch to another phone I don't have to worry about buying a new adapter, if needed. Nice.

For $20, it's convenient, extremely portable and a great solution to fill the gap before your cell battery can get it's regular charge. Will be interesting to see if I get the 500 recharges that are advertised in the pack. I'll update this review if I don't or run into problems.

I'd give it 5 stars, but the battery charge indicator light needs work. It's not clear on how charged the Energi to go is, just if there is a charge or not.
