A Concise Yet Informative Introduction to the Field, March 10, 2008
This review is from: Energy from Biomass: A Review of Combustion and Gasification Technologies (World Bank Technical Papers) (Paperback)
In my view, this is a great introductory monograph to the area of biomass-energy conversion technologies. Its most striking feature is their conciseness and comprehensiveness. This book focuses on the conversion technologies of biomass into electricity and heat via a combustion and gasification technology. It does not include materials on biofuels and bio-refinery (e.g., bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, etc.) and anaerobic digestion technology but you can find these topics in other texts (e.g., Brown, 2003; Klass, 1998). If you are interested in using biomass to generate electricity and heat, this is probably a great intrduction to the topic. This book covers the following key topics:
1. Biomass characteristics essentially to be used as fuels
2. A concise introduction to the theory of combustion and conversion efficiency
3. Combustion technologies
4. Gasification technologies
5. Pros and cons of these technologies
6. Financial and economic analysis of small-scale biomass power plant projects on combustion and gasification technologies (1-5 MWe range)
This semi-technical monograph is highly readable and I would recommend it to both technical and non-technical readers who want a good introduction to the field.

Just a viability study book for large scale industrial use, August 9, 2007
This review is from: Energy from Biomass: A Review of Combustion and Gasification Technologies (World Bank Technical Papers) (Paperback)
Not useful for the on the spot production of or viability of methane production. I was looking for something that would help with production methods and viability study for such for on site agriculture conversion to gas!
This is just a viability study for large production facility's!
