5.0 out of 5 stars Speakers that provide Energy to your sound system
Recently I upgraded my 5.1 speaker system to the Energy C-50 fronts and surrounds along with a CC-50 and a ESW-8 subwoofer. The C-50's came through Amazon (Audio Advisors) for $70 a pair. I also found the center channel and subwoofer @ Worldwide Stereo for $79 and $99. This brought the total cost to $318 with free shipping.

Although happy with the price...

5.0 out of 5 stars Speakers that provide Energy to your sound system, February 15, 2009

Although happy with the price I am thrilled with the performance! I found the speakers did need a good 50 hour break in period to reach peak performance but once that milestone is met you are good to go.

I have been an Energy fan since the early 90's and still have a great pair of Energy 3.1 speakers.
Although Energy is now owned by Klipsch, I have found that the quality of materials and related sound represent a compelling value and would complement most mid price ranged audio and home theater systems. Do yourself a favor and compare the workmanship and sound of these little giants before you fork over money on an overpriced cheaply constructed pair of speakers (i,e Bose).

These are very high quality. At under $80 for the pair, they will amaze you. They produce lows that are surprising given the 4.5" driver. They look and sound fantastic, and beat any similarly priced offerings I have seen from Polk. Polk is the only similar brand I have to compare, and these sound better than my Polks that have larger 5.25" drivers and cost twice as much. After purchasing a pair of these, I bought three pair of C-100's elsewhere(on sale) to upgrade my home theater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just WOW!, January 26, 2009
This review is from: Energy C-50 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)
I have 4 Energy C-50's and a Center C-C50 linked to a Harmon Kardon AVR-254 Receiver. The clarity and depth of these little speakers is just fantastic. I did a bunch of research on small speakers and found many hardened Audiophiles with a love for Energy Speakers recommeding them over much more expensive small units. Pretty impressive lows for tiny speakers, getting down to 65hz with no problems.

Forget Bose junk, save your money and grab these amazing little performers then match them up to a Harmon Kardon, Marantz or Pioneer amp for a killer economy system that will blow away any similarly priced 'all-in-one' systems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible little speakers!, February 11, 2009

For their size, these speakers are brilliant, you get some usable bass and bags of detail. They feel very high quality.

Certainly not your average little speaker. Pair these with a good receiver and subwoofer, then you'll be on your way to a great system.

if you are on a budget, may be those speakers will be good for the job, although you can do much betetr with a pair of polk audio monitor M-30, which sound 10 times betetr then the C-50, and are at similar prices.

While they are very well built, and heavy, I did not get the highs and lows i was expecting. The sound was just not bright enough and not clear enough, DRIVING THROUGH PIONEER VSX 919 110 W/CHANEL). Now please do not misunderstand me, the speakers will deliver good sound, but what I mean, IMO, for the money you can really do better (i.e.: c-100. OR POLK M30, M40)

If you are wlling to spend an extra buck, I advise you to get the C-100 or the C-200 from energy, or go polk audio M-30 or M-40, they are on sale now, making room for the TSI series.
I gave my speakers to a friend, as I stopped using them after a while.
wish i went with the C-100 to start with.
hope this will helpful for potential byuers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why? and why I think they do the job., March 1, 2009

This review is from: Energy C-50 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)
I was using a 35 year old pair of Infiniti 4000's as my rear surround sound speakers and recently listened as the woofers gave out. Since my main speakers are Energy Connoisseur Reference 22's, older than the Infinities, but performing better than when new, and over the years I added Energy front surround and center speakers, all from the Connoisseur series, another pair of Energy speakers for the rear surround made sense to me. The C-50's are on sale as close outs and the price was right, thinking if they didn't integrate into my system well, I could always use them elsewhere, I made the decision to buy.

Tho they are still being broken in (Energy suggest 100 hours at moderate volume to break in the transducers), the performance of the C-50's have surpassed the Infinities beyond my expectations, and despite the massive difference of cabinet size and that the C-50's are the bottom of the C line. The sound definition and sound stage have improved significantly for my Yamaha driven 7.1 receiver. The Energy 22's supply more than sufficient base response in my living room to forgo a separate subwoofer. Pursuant to my previous pleasure with Energy speakers, the C-50's have added to the aural experience. I will continue recommending Energy speakers when the opportunity presents itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big slam little box, August 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Energy C-50 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)
The summer of 2009 saw me looking to change my HT set up both from a receiver and speakers point of view. Changed speakers first as I purchased a pair of Energy C200 mains, Energy C-C50 center channel and Energy C50's for rear. I wanted the C200's due to being able to bi-amp them as they are set up for that feature. One day I decided to try and listen to the much smaller C50's as the main speaker just out of curiosity. WOW, now that was really impressive.

Energy speakers are warm sounding to begin with. The C200's are no exception. However, they do share the same tweeter as the C50. Being as small as they are (9 inches tall, 6.8 inches deep and 5.5 inches wide)I thought they would have a tough time competing with the C200's. Boy was I wrong! The bass extension from these little boxes is just amazing. The C200's come with port plugs as they are rear ported. It's a good thing too. They can get a little boomy and the plugs help to tame that boominess! But, with the C50 they are almost dead on in bass extension. I had less tweaking to do with them as my mains. Well that brings us up to the present day. These speakers are no longer in production. However, if you search hard enough you can find some that are still out there. When I found that Amazon had them I had to make the purchase. So what is the result?

I couldn't be more happy. These small but mighty boxes throw out an excellent sound stage, great channel separation and imaging!! And that bass! How did they do that is still beyond me for a speaker this size. If you are lucky enough to find a pair get 28 inch stands to put them on due to their small stature. The only draw back is you can't bi-amp them. But hey, with sound this good who cares!

If you have a small to medium size living room these little boxes will more than fill it with sound. Just don't overdrive them of course....as with any speaker!

Energy was purchased by Klipsch a while back as they are Canadian. They now have a new line replacing the original C series. If you are looking to either replace or setting up your first HT I highly recommend Energy speakers. Competitively priced with great bang for your buck!! And what's even better Amazon does carry a good selection of Energy speakers. I highly recommend you see about auditioning before buying of course, if possible. Remember these are warm sounding speakers and like any good audio gear do need time to "burn in." Also, it does help to have good cabling as well. I know many people say cables are cables, right. Well, that ain't true..........at all! They can be a deal breaker. Spend the extra money and buy something good rather than cheap. Your ears will thank you time and time again!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers at a bargain price, January 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Energy C-50 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)
I bought these as a gift for my father to upgrade his front speakers on his home theater-in-a-box. These are a huge improvement. They provide sounds into the upper-bass area as others have mentioned, whereas the speakers that came with the HTIB were little tinny things with no bass at all. These really bring out the mids and highs as well, and at under $100 for the pair, were a bargain. They have some weight to them and are of high quality construction. I recommend pairing these with a good center channel (I used a klipsch c-1) to dramatically improve the sound of an HTIB.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers for the money, June 28, 2009
This review is from: Energy C-50 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)
I bought these as part of an HT set along with the C-C50 and the S8.3 subwoofer. Out of the box, these speakers sound way too bright. Give them 10s of hours to break in and turn down the treble a little bit until they loosen up. After that they sound great. These speakers are small and produce an amazing amount of sound; however, they can get lost in a large room. If you've got a decent amount of space to fill, you might consider the C-100's. Search the web for the best price, some stores appear to be clearing out old stock.
