From the Manufacturer

What the Experts Are Saying

"The CF-50s, despite their comparably low price, are good. In fact, they're great."

"Not only do the speakers present a wide listening area, they also give a tremendous sense of depth, and with the right receiver powering them, they can be incredibly three-dimensional."

"But depth and simulated surround audio presentation isn't all the CF-50s have to offer, they are also are notably neutral, presenting a great balance of highs, mids, and lows."

—Scott Lowe,, May 2010

“The CF-50s carry the legendary Energy name in convincing fashion. I've heard few components that I would describe as neutral and fewer speakers. For $800/pair, the CF-50s offer dynamic yet controlled sound that doesn't grate on the ear or the wallet. For the price and performance they're easily recommended.”

--Todd Whitesel, Audio Video Revolution (, March 31, 2010

I purchased these speakers as a replacement for satellite fronts that had come as part of package. Those were fine but I wanted a deeper, richer sound. I listened to several different speaker combinations in a store, with music, dialog-heavy music, etc...and landed on these as giving at very full, rich sound without needed tons of power from the receiver.

I did a little more research on various speaker companies and listened more to various brands/models in a premium section at a big box store. I found these on sale for $220 per speaker, and it made the decision a no-brainer when others that produced similar sound were 3 and 4x the price. They look great, sounds fantastic, giving a fuller, rich sound for games and movies. Putting the receiver in stereo mode and letting music hum through these really makes them shine...the music sounds fuller and more immersive.

2 Things to note:

1) These speaker need some burn-in time to really loosen up the cones and produce the best sound. They recommend 100 hours of normal volume and I did notice a positive difference from when I first set them up until a week later.

2) Make sure to put music in stereo mode on your receiver instead of the pre-processed virtual surround stuff, and set your sub crossover frequency properly. I was ready to return these because I hated the sound coming out until I did that. Once I got the settings right I noticed a world of difference.

I've had these in operation for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier with the sound and look.

Bought the speakers on black friday deal for four fourty a pair. One of the speakers tweeter did not work and had to change it over which was a pain. Other than that the finish is great, seems to be very well built. The speaker does not have floor spikes, or any way to place any on its base for those who need to place on carpet. They are fairly heavy each and quite deep compared with their widths.
The actual woofers are actually attractive. The cones are of great quality and the phase plug is not just glued on to the cone - they go to the deeper magnet driver and do not move with the movement of the actual woofer - tend to be found in higher priced speakers.
The front baffle is a glossly black finish the rest seems to be vinyl, there are four binding post to the rear so the speaker can be bi-amped or bi-wired.
Finally, and most importantly, the speakers sound fantastic even out of the box - they company recommends 100 hours break in so I hope they will open up further but I am quite happy with the sound so far, I am using them bi-wired with a Yamaha s500 2 channel amp and a Marantz CD67se CD player. The sound is very well balanced and neutral - slightly bright which I like, bass seems very acceptable in terms of being a nice balance and punchy. You may prefer a sub but I don't for most of the music I listen to - particularly female voices sounds very clean and tonally correct, I can hear instruments well.
Good buy at the price I paid. Would recommend.

I recently purchased a 5.1 energy system consisting of CF-50 Fronts, CC-10 center, CB-10 rears and ESW-C10 sub.
I've read a lot of reviews on CF-50 but after listening to Klipsch I found CF-50 to be clearer in the sound, warmer and closer to my listening habits. For the price I've paid I believe the system is outstanding. The only thing that I'm not impressed so much are the rear speakers that, are still in the break-in period and have a more closed sound, but I expect them to open. I use it 80% for Home Theater (movies) and 20% for sound. I'm watching again the Lord of The Rings - and I'm blown away by the sound - awesome. CF-50 are just great for music too. Let's say I've listened to speakers 3x the price of CF-50 and got a feeling that their performed very well. Build quality is good and sound is good. Can't say anything about subwoofer as I live in an apartment and the woofer might be too much for my neighbors.
Great system for the buck!!!

Verified Purchase
Originally purchased these at Best Buy for $439 ea. I did some shopping around and found them on Amazon for $239 ea. and it was a done deal. I bought them from amazon and replaced them. I did the same with the Energy Power12 subwoofer. The main floor to my house is very open concept so these babies paired with the EnergyPower12 and the in-ceiling Klipsch theater system, make for an amazing audio experience. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

Speakers are not fully broken in yet and they still sound great. Much more detail than my previous setup.
