Book Description

There are two causes to the decline of a civilization: loss of energy and loss of energy quality. These two dimensions of energy are what determine the ultimate survival of a nation, empire, or way of life. Where are the United States and the rest of the developed world today along the energy dimension continuum? Do you have the tools you need to understand the future of your world? Are you ready to make the changes today that will not only help our nations struggle through the difficult transitions we already face, but will also help you to thrive? Do you know what investment strategies or careers will be best in today’s new and different world? This book can help you alter your lifestyle not only to best save the planet from environmental disaster, overpopulation, or food crises, but it can help you adapt in a way you may never have dreamed. Know your history, know energy, and know your future. Don’t be fooled: the barbarian’s of energy scarcity are not at the gate, they are a Trojan Horse already within the fortress walls.
Dr. Douglas B. Reynolds holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Economics, specializing in energy. Dr. Reynolds worked as an engineer in the aerospace and defense industry in the 1980s and taught economics in Kazakstan, a former Soviet republic, just after the fall of communism. Currently Dr. Reynolds is a professor of oil and energy economics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has been there since 1997. He has lived and worked in a number of countries around the world including Norway, Kazakstan, Russia, Mexico, Poland, and France. Dr. Reynolds has completed a number of consulting jobs for the State of Alaska and has published a number of academic articles and books on oil and energy economics including a neo-classical economic explanation of the Hubbert curve. He currently heats his home with a coal boiler system and commutes by bike whether it is 90 above or 50 below.

reasons are plausible but delivery could have been better. Author repeated himself, in detail, multiple times. Editor should have caught this. Content was very good.
