I love Energy Products and this is no exception.

Pros:
-Sounds great, at all frequencies. Best for vocals and easy-listening, bass is ok, but you will likely need a subwoofer. A box or insulation around it in the ceiling would help.
-The vocals are very clear and no muddying of sound. I have not cranked it up.
-For surround sound - as main speakers (left and right)...as I said - your subwoofer needs to kick in.
-The price was frankly, incredible when I got it a few weeks ago at $75/pair. I think Energy had just introduced it, and I was lucky to catch the early worm. Even non-branded speakers cost about $70 a pair, so buying Energy/Klipcsh was a no-brainer.
-Instructions are easy to follow and comes with a template and paint guard.

Cons:
-Just the price point needs to be adjusted by Amazon. Others have it for $120 a pair, - more reasonable.
-$399/pair is even beyond AudioPhile Category. Even SpeakerCraft is around $300/pair. When you look at other brands Amazon sells - Polk, Yamaha, Boston...this is currently priced out at $399/pair. Hopefully this is a glitch in the system (this is the MSRP, so I think its a glitch).
-No instructions how to use the glue/putty...just a few tiny sticks on top of the styrofoam packing.

I bought three pair of these a few weeks ago for a whole house audio application in a new home I had purchased and let me tell you that I am very happy with these speakers. They were easy to install and they sound fantastic!! I had looked online at other "off brand" in-ceiling speakers, but chose these because of the Energy name which I do believe goes back to something like 1973 (not to mention that they are owned by Klipsch). You absolutely can't go wrong by buying these speakers....great value...equally great speaker.

These speakers really surprised me. I bought them during a sale as an early Christmas present for my parents. They recently re-did their living/dining room and were hesitant to put the Aiwa mini system that was there previously back into the room afterward. They felt it would detract too much from the fresh new look of the room, as it used to live under one of the end tables on the floor. 'nuff said! So we set out on a project to hide the stereo in a nearby hall closet and put speakers in the ceiling. When I saw these come up on a popular deal site that is always slick, I jumped on them figuring if they were not good, I could just send them back thanks to Amazon's great return policy. But, there was no need. We installed them a few weeks later and were very impressed with the results. The Energy speakers (unsurprisingly) blew away the bass-reflex speakers that originally came with the stereo, and the room is now filled with clear, rich sound that has a way-above-average amount of bass. If you're looking to fill one room with great sound without integrating a standalone system into your decor, this is the way to go. You are not going to get sound that's equivalent to tower speakers or a set with a sub-woofer. But when installed correctly, you WILL get pleasing, clear, crisp and warm sound. I highly recommend this set.

Some quick details about the install. The speakers were really easy to install once the hole was cut using the included template. You just hold the speaker in the hole and turn the screws on the outer edge, which then swing little arms out the grab hold of the ceiling and hold the speaker in place. It seriously could not be easier.

The setup: Apple Airport Express --> Topping class T amp --> Energy EAS-8C

I have these installed in my kitchen/dining room, which has a high ceiling and quite a bit of space to cover. I'm using them for music listening in stereo, not movie/surround sound.

Volume - not a problem. I was worried that pairing 8 inch speakers with a low watt, digital amp would make them struggle. Not one bit. It's loud enough for my neighbors to hear without distortion.

Sound quality - what you'd expect from Energy speakers: bright beautiful sound with more than adequate bass. Don't expect deep lows. After all these are free-air, in-ceiling speakers, designed for dispersed sound, not a well-tuned bookshelf speaker. Kick drums sound good and punchy. Extended bass notes and snares are less audible (in the oomph area). Highs and vocals sound bright and open (typical of Energy's aluminum tweeter sound). Missing a little bit in the mid range area. But hey, for the price I paid, I'm not complaining (at the time they were $80/pair).

Value - I can say that for $80/pair, these are an incredible deal. Unbeatable deal. But I notice that they're now closer to $300/pair, putting them in the same price league as JBL, Infinity, and lower end Klipsch etc. I'm not sure if I would buy them at this price range. $100-200 would still make these a pretty good deal. $200-300 probably not. Polks 8 inch sell for $140/pair. And at twice the price, the Energys don't sound twice as good. If anything, they're in the same league sound-wise, with different characteristics.

Should you go with 8 inch vs. 6 inch? I think so. I mean.. it's mounted to your ceiling, so it's not exactly taking up valuable room.
