Product Description

From the Manufacturer

From the Manufacturer One of the most important speakers in any system, the subwoofer never gets the respect it deserves. We invest a lot of design time and effort into building the industry’s best subwoofers, offering unparalleled performance and sonic accuracy. Energy's subwoofer line is certain to have a model designed precisely to fit your needs.

ESW-10: Rock-solid Performance

The value and power of the ESW-10 will shake up your home theater
Not only does it offer exceptional value, the ESW-10 subwoofer shakes things up with its rock-solid performances. Its extraordinary power lets you "feel" movie explosions and other special effects, as well as reveals subtle lower musical tones.

A bass-reflex design with a front-firing port, the ESW-10 employs a 10-inch MPP cone with patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround™. This proprietary design eliminates surround distortion, enabling the subwoofer to play lower with greater output and fidelity. An efficient internal power amplifier enables this hard-hitter to deliver 400 watts of output for accurate, deep and powerful bass response.

The ESW-10 features line and speaker level inputs as well as a variable low-pass filter for seamless blending with a wide variety of speakers, including Energy’s C-Series and Take Series. The subwoofer also has a power mode switch that enables it to turn on and off automatically, based on the presence or absence of an audio signal.

In addition to reaching deeper and hitting harder, the ESW-10 features a classic black ash finish that fits comfortably into any living environment.

The Energy Advantage

Energy brand speakers are the culmination of over 30 years of scientific research and development in acoustics, speaker engineering and manufacturing. The philosophy of design behind every Energy brand product has its foundation in our pioneering study with the Canadian National Research Council (NRC) almost 20 years ago, which lead to incredible breakthroughs in speaker technology. Understanding how people listen has led us to three simple, yet vital factors that are the basis for the Energy brand’s speaker design and construction. These factors are flat on-axis frequency response, wide and constant dispersion, and low distortion.

Flat On-Axis Frequency Response with Wide Bandwidth

Flat frequency response is the ability of a speaker to reproduce the entire audio range in a uniform manner. By ensuring that no one frequency dominates over any other, Energy ensures that every sound is reproduced the way it was intended, as naturally as possible.

Wide and Constant Dispersion

This refers to sound—at all frequencies—which radiates from the loudspeaker, ideally in an even pattern, in all directions throughout the listening environment. In nature, sound radiates all around us. A speaker must be able to reproduce this as accurately as possible, thus spreading the sounds we hear constantly, consistently.

Low Distortion & Resonance

While no speaker system is totally devoid of distortion or resonance characteristics—speaker systems with as much as 25-30% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) at bass frequencies can still be considered "high end"—Energy consistently achieves significantly lower distortion levels in its entire line of speaker products. It's an improvement that is clearly audible.

A Constant Pursuit of Excellence

This basic Energy philosophy hasn't changed in over 30 years, yet our extensive research methodology and the available technology and materials have steadily improved, enabling Energy to continue to manufacture speaker systems that achieve outstanding performance through consistent improvements to all of these three critical parameters.

We’re constantly working on designing new and improved speakers. Our engineers and designers are diligently working to better reproduce sound in the most realistic manner possible. Years of expertise and the best measuring and testing equipment available allow us to continue to push the boundaries of sound reproduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty clean bass!, March 10, 2009
This review is from: Energy ESW-10 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
The ESW-10 is a solid mid range subwoofer that can provide room shaking bass for movie watching as well a tight crisp bass for music. This sub retails for about $330 on the energy website and since Klipsch has taken over ATI (Mirage, Athena, Energy) it has been on clearance. Klipsch is also honoring all warranties on ATI products so you can buy with peace of mind. I purchased from audio advisor for $185 but it looks as though some sellers are offering it for around $160 now. I looked at the entry level subs from Sony and Polk and passed on them for a few reasons. One, the ESW-10 is downfiring which, to me, provided a deeper richer sound as well as protected the woofer from my dog and any little fingers. Two, the make of the woofer is also far superior, hard composite cone with rubber surround as opposed to paper composite in the Sony. I spent a little more but I checked out some the Sony 10' (SA-W2500) costing about $100 and two different store models had rips in the paper composite cones...plus the back of the 2500 is hideous! (can't see it in the online pictures) I play this in a cathedral ceilinged living room (15x20) which is about the limit to what this woofer can fill. I played with some different placements and as well as placing a small square of plexiglass underneath the woofer to see how big a sweet spot I could make but it didn't change things too much.

I will say that the break-in period is crucial so don't rush it and let the sub loosen up. It sounds good out of the box but it will get better and better for that first 50-100 hours as it breaks in. The best way to break in any system is to play a full range of sounds so I just burned a random mix cd with some rock, rap, classical, pop etc and put my cd player continuous play. You could probobly just use the radio and accomplish the same thing.

Just an FYI this model does not have a single LFE input but rather just the RL audio. Not a big deal! You can plug a single Sub cable into the L (white) audio and it will work fine. I bought a $4 RL splitter from radio shack just to see what would happen and I thought it improved the sound (though in theory it really shouldn't because LFE is a mono directional signal) so I kept it.

This is a great sub for the money...maybe the best and most versatile for under $200...I have definitely been satisfied completely with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars ESW-10 Energy Subwoofer - Great Economical Subwoofer, December 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Energy ESW-10 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
In this time of credit crunch and low cash this is a great deal. You don't need anything more if you have a room smaller than 20 ft by 20 ft.
Well made and has all the necessary adjustments on the back. Base is firm and deep. I like the 10" downfiring woofer and rear/front ports. I am very satisfied.
