5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty clean bass!
The ESW-10 is a solid mid range subwoofer that can provide room shaking bass for movie watching as well a tight crisp bass for music. This sub retails for about $330 on the energy website and since Klipsch has taken over ATI (Mirage, Athena, Energy) it has been on clearance. Klipsch is also honoring all warranties on ATI products so you can buy with peace of mind. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazon shipping = Not so good; Amazon price = Very good
I ordered this sub from Amazon when it was 1/2 the price it is now. Received it yesterday (in Hawaii). Amazon did not double box this product. It came in the Energy box and was left on my front porch for the whole world to see the entire day while I was at work. I will plug it in tonight and hope nothing was damaged in transit. I will update this review later...

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty clean bass!, March 10, 2009
This review is from: Energy ESW-10 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
The ESW-10 is a solid mid range subwoofer that can provide room shaking bass for movie watching as well a tight crisp bass for music. This sub retails for about $330 on the energy website and since Klipsch has taken over ATI (Mirage, Athena, Energy) it has been on clearance. Klipsch is also honoring all warranties on ATI products so you can buy with peace of mind. I purchased from audio advisor for $185 but it looks as though some sellers are offering it for around $160 now. I looked at the entry level subs from Sony and Polk and passed on them for a few reasons. One, the ESW-10 is downfiring which, to me, provided a deeper richer sound as well as protected the woofer from my dog and any little fingers. Two, the make of the woofer is also far superior, hard composite cone with rubber surround as opposed to paper composite in the Sony. I spent a little more but I checked out some the Sony 10' (SA-W2500) costing about $100 and two different store models had rips in the paper composite cones...plus the back of the 2500 is hideous! (can't see it in the online pictures) I play this in a cathedral ceilinged living room (15x20) which is about the limit to what this woofer can fill. I played with some different placements and as well as placing a small square of plexiglass underneath the woofer to see how big a sweet spot I could make but it didn't change things too much.

I will say that the break-in period is crucial so don't rush it and let the sub loosen up. It sounds good out of the box but it will get better and better for that first 50-100 hours as it breaks in. The best way to break in any system is to play a full range of sounds so I just burned a random mix cd with some rock, rap, classical, pop etc and put my cd player continuous play. You could probobly just use the radio and accomplish the same thing.

Just an FYI this model does not have a single LFE input but rather just the RL audio. Not a big deal! You can plug a single Sub cable into the L (white) audio and it will work fine. I bought a $4 RL splitter from radio shack just to see what would happen and I thought it improved the sound (though in theory it really shouldn't because LFE is a mono directional signal) so I kept it.

This is a great sub for the money...maybe the best and most versatile for under $200...I have definitely been satisfied completely with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars ESW-10 Energy Subwoofer - Great Economical Subwoofer, December 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

In this time of credit crunch and low cash this is a great deal. You don't need anything more if you have a room smaller than 20 ft by 20 ft.
Well made and has all the necessary adjustments on the back. Base is firm and deep. I like the 10" downfiring woofer and rear/front ports. I am very satisfied.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bass, great price, August 7, 2009
This review is from: Energy ESW-10 Subwoofer (Single, Black) (Electronics)
All of the packing materials were destroyed during shipping but the sub made it unscathed. Hooked it up, works flawlessly. I'm still in the "break in period" but at normal levels it can still deliver chest resonating tones. I can't wait to really crank it up and see what it can do.

Update: Connected it last night and it sounds nice. Up my rating from 3 to 4. If you can get this for $170 (which what Amazon was selling it for a week ago), this is a great deal. At $330, I'm not sure...
