Energy Market Restructuring and the Environment explores relationships between energy market restructuring and environmental protection using a comparative perspective to identify good models from both industrial and developing countries. The central question is whether environmental protection, a public good, can be 'designed in' to more competitive energy markets. The major focus is electric power, an industry now in the process of restructuring in order to promote greater competition and reduced government direction. The volume analyzes transformations in the roles of industry, consumers, and government as energy is increasingly traded and dealt with as a commodity. The authors, who collaborated in international workshops, identify policy options at both the national and international levels for enhancing environmental protection as an objective of energy market reform.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Important analyses of the future of energy markets and their environmental implications are presented in a very precise way...It is possible that readers will not agree with every chapter presented, but they will find enough arguments and the necessarytheory to understand the issue. In addition, they will find different point of view within the different existing energy markets.>>> (Juan Bernardo Moreno Cruz Environment )
