But in the ancient traditions of China, India, and Japan, energy is seen as a universal life force. In China, this life force is qi (pronounced "chee"), and travels through the body on pathways called meridians. Understanding these meridians is the key to acupuncture and acupressure. In India, energy is called prana, and its channels are called nadis. Along the main channel are seven centers of energy called chakras. Movement systems like t'ai chi and yoga are designed to balance energy in the body, rather than burn it off.
Energy Now explains these basics of Eastern medicine, philosophy, and exercise simply and intelligently. The illustrations--a combination of beautiful artwork and easy-to-follow photographic sequences of models demonstrating various movements and techniques--make the ideas discussed seem both inviting and timeless.
If you have any curiosity at all about yoga, shiatsu massage, aromatheraphy, acupuncture, reflexology, or any other therapy or system based on Eastern concepts, Energy Now is as attractive and user-friendly an introduction as you'll find. --Lou Schuler
