A Capacitor in a Box, July 15, 2010

We tested one of these in our laboratory at the Brandeis University High-Energy Physics Department. The device turns out to be a 60-μF capacitor in a box. You can buy such a capacitor for $20. When you install one of these next to your breaker box, it will not reduce your energy bill. What will reduce your energy bill is turning off lights and using less air conditioning. People who spend money on the KVAR device are going to be careful with their energy use afterwards, so they will see their energy bill drop. But the box could have nothing in it and they would still see the same savings.

I am a 3rd generation electrician and have used these controllers for years I just installed one on my new home and have had a 22 percent drop in the bill. all lights and pumps of mine are on timers so i know the usage is the same but the power consumption has dropped!
