2.0 out of 5 stars One blew in 5 weeks. Other still working., August 19, 2011

This review is from: Energy Saving Soft White 3-way Compact Fluorescent CFL Light Bulb - 12/20/26W - 2700K - pack of 2
I placed these two bulbs into identical lamps, on either side of our bed. One is my nightstand, and the other on my wife's. They each get used pretty equally. That being said, one of the bulbs blew out this week, after exactly 5 weeks of use. That's unacceptable. The other is still working, but for how much longer? Amazon already refunded my purchase, so that's wonderful. Now to go buy a pair of different bulbs. I figure, I might as well buy two now, because the other one of these is probably going to blow soon. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because it is still working now, and might work for a long time, but I'll never know. I don't think it would be fair to give 1 star unless they both died.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing: Too Bright, Didn't Last, December 7, 2011

The two main problems I experienced are: (1) The bulbs are just too bright & (2) one light burned out and the other malfunctioning after a VERY short time.

To the first point: The bulbs are certainly brighter than the supposed equivalent "regular" 3-way bulbs we previously used (which had three distinct light levels, from low light to bright light. The three levels on these compact fluorescent bulbs, however, could be described as bright, really bright and super bright--with very little discernible difference between the three levels. This fact rather defeats the purpose of a three-way bulb, at least for us, because sometimes you want the light low, which is not possible with these bulbs.

To the second point: One of the bulbs burned out after just a few weeks and the other is malfunctioning. Both lights were used in the same room, in identical (brand new) lamps and were on/off about the same amount of time. After a few weeks, one bulb just died -- which is completely unacceptable. The remaining bulb is still working, sort of. To wit, it is now, quite literally, a 2-way bulb: No light on the first click, really bright on the second and even brighter light on the third click (but just a little bit brighter).

I would not buy these bulbs again and wouldn't have purchased them if I had known what I know now.
