Energy Take Classic 5-pack

The Energy Take Classic 5 Pack Home Entertainment Speaker System is a no-compromise collection of high-tech components that offer complete and uncompromising fidelity at an affordable price. Made up of four Take satellite speakers and a Take center channel speaker, each high-gloss black speaker component in this system is masterfully integrated with each other creating a killer sound that is much bigger than it looks and that seamlessly meshes with any flat panel HDTV system.

The Lowdown
Take Classic 5 Pack proves that convenience doesn't have to mean compromise. Sure, you can shop for individual home theater components-but you won't get better performance, or better looks. Integrating the best technologies Energy has to offer, the Take Classic can fill your room with hair-rising effects and theater-like sound: hyperbolic aluminum dome tweeters for screaming highs and Convergent Source Modules for clear, crisp dialogue and music. In addition, integrated keyhole wall-mounts, threaded inserts and rubber bumpers let you choose how and where to place your speakers.

Bragging Rights
Energy has been a leader in audio research and development as well as in the engineering and manufacturing of speakers since 1973. With this pedigree Take Classic components were developed with Energy's core principles in mind. These include:

Flat On-Axis Frequency Response with Wide Bandwidth - Speakers should reproduce the entire audio range in a uniform manner. By ensuring that no one frequency dominates any other, Energy ensures that every note is the way it was intended to be - and the sound as natural as possible.

Wide and Constant Dispersion - Sound at all frequencies radiating from the speaker should be in an even pattern, in all directions throughout the room.

Low Distortion and Resonance - Speaker system is distortion-or resonance-free, but Energy has achieved a significantly lower distortion level, a clearly audible improvement.

The Take Classic 5 Pack home theater system also offers terrific performance and great features:

  • Our patented Convergent Source Module (CSM) 3-inch poly-titanium woofer and .75-inch hyperbolic aluminum-dome tweeter -the heart of Energy speakers
  • An aluminum dome tweeter for sonic accuracy
  • Front and rear venting for more powerful bass response
  • Keyhole slots, threaded inserts, and rubber bumpers offer several mounting options

Take Classic raises the bar for 5.0 speaker system performance. The Convergent Source Module (CSM), with its 3-inch poly-titanium woofer and .75-inch hyperbolic aluminum-dome tweeter, focuses sound for clearer dialogue and stirring music. The CSM gives soundtracks a dynamic frequency range and a huge soundstage, for smooth, realistic sound from each satellite speaker and the center channel. Music and movie lovers rejoice. Take Classic 5 Pack puts the passion back into your favorite films.

Exclusive Energy Brand Technologies

Convergent Source Module
The Convergent Source Module, or CSM, provides wide dispersion, low distortion and amazing midrange performance. The speaker's midrange and tweeter are positioned in close proximity to one another and act as a single source, thereby increasing overall dispersion and reducing any lobing effect. The chambering of the mid and tweeter lowers the driver's resonance, reducing distortion.

Ribbed Elliptical Surround Technology
Energy's patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology (U.S. patent #6,725,967, Canadian patent #2,407,123) increases excursion, eliminates distortion and raises efficiency on woofers and subwoofers. The Elliptical Surround encompasses the cone, allowing it to move identically in both directions, resulting in near zero distortion. And while conventional designs are often plagued with surround dimpling, which causes them to radiate in and out of phase and distort at all listening levels, Energy's designs aren't influenced by dimpling at all, instead proprietary Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology allows for a larger cone surface, resulting in greater efficiency. This design also lets the cone achieve greater peak to peak movement, thus allowing it to travel more than double the distance of the competition. These attributes enable Energy woofers and subwoofers to move incredible amounts of air, ultimately allowing them to play lower frequencies with greater bass extension and fidelity.

What's in the Box

Maximum Performance Tips:
The center channel speaker needs to be centrally located so that the dialogue appears to be coming from the center of the screen. It needs to be above or below the monitor, as closely to it as possible. If you're using a rear projection television, the most likely option is to place it above the screen. If you have a front projection system, you have choices-stand mounting, or placement on furniture, for example. It is important, though, to place the speaker so that its front edge is even with the edge of the shelf or stand supporting it. Unwanted diffraction occurs when the center channel is too far back into a cabinet or other surface with edges that could impede sound dispersion.

For left or right front channels, the distance between the speakers should be 6-8 feet at minimum for the best stereo imaging. The optimum room shape is rectangular, with the speakers along one of the shorter walls, facing the opposite side. If possible, do not place speakers against a wall or at rear of a bookshelf; corner placement is usually the worst option. Try to keep the speakers-especially rear vented models-at least two feet from the surface behind it, unless you use a vent plug. For best results mounting on a rear wall, position the speakers so they flank the main listening area and point toward the front of the room. They should be raised to a height of approximately six feet and should ideally have a space of six feet between them.

First off let me explain that the Energy Classic speakers in this kit are the exact same as the Energy Take Classic 5.1 except that you don't get the subwoofer. These speakers are just mind boggling good. They come in gloss piano black finish. They sound better than any speakers I've ever owned - even ones 5 times bigger. I use them mostly for music thru my Onkyo receiver but home theater sounds just as good. You can crank these babies up and they reward you with very clean and accurate sound. The first song I listened to with these was Khatru off Keys To Ascension and it put a big smile on my face. Anyway the best reason to get this set as opposed to the 5.1 kit is that you can match these up with a better subwoofer than the Energy sub. I got the Yamaha SW315 in piano black and it's a great match. Highly recommended. Just remember to use the proper gauge speaker wire for the length of your run and you'll be in great shape.

Pros: These are crisp, clean, lots of range, lots of imaging (ability to sound like an actual 3D event, rather than sound coming from speakers.) Very well matched as a set. They fill my reasonably large TV/audio rooms very, very well. They mounted rather inconspicuously near the corners of the room about 8 feet high on wooden wall beams, yet their wide-dispersion and off-axis accuracy sounds terrific. I just can't imagine a better sounding system anywhere near this price point. And I've heard a lot of them.

Cons: These speakers originally came with a subwoofer from Energy. This version of these speaker does not. I have mine hooked up with a JBL subwoofer, and they are outstanding. I might not think so without the subwoofer, but I haven't tried them that way. If you have a subwoofer to run with them, you're set. If you don't, you might want to consider getting a subwoofer.
Review: I've been using Energy speakers for a long, long time. My main speakers have been Energy 22 Reference Connoisseurs Rosewoods since 1986. Paid $2,200 for the pair new. I used to sell speakers and nothing touched these.

But I've been looking for surround speakers for a while as my old surrounds were 20 years old and the cones were developing tiny rips. Their sound was sounding a little flubbery, to coin a term. I had seen the small "complete system" speakers (Mostly Bose and Klipsh but others too), but had never heard any I really liked a lot. And many (like the Bose) only work with a integrated receiver. Anyway, I was shopping for smaller replacement surrounds, nothing else.

But I kept reading about these Energy Take 5 Classics, not as surrounds, but as the complete package. Every where I read - and I read a lot - said these were the real deal. Not just as surrounds.

Let me start off by saying these speakers are a great addition to any home theater, especially given their price point. I think you would have a hard time finding better sounding speakers for this price! I replaced my Samsung 32" LCD and Sony Home Theater in a box with a Panasonic TC P50V10 - 50" plasma TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV (which is amazing), to this I added an Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1-Channel A/V Surround Home Theater Receiver (Black), Energy Take Classic 5.0, Energy S-10.3 800-Watt 10-Inch Subwoofer (Black), and a Bush 60" TV stand. The sound that comes out of these speakers is crisp and full bodied, the highs are high and the mids are wonderful. Playing games or watching Blu-Rays has never sounded (or looked) better. The first night I used the system my subwoofer wasn't functional due to a faulty cable and the Take Classics still provided ample bass to get by (although nothing compared to the S10.3). I originally wanted to buy the Take Classic 5.1 system but waited too long and it went off the market...I now realize that this was a blessing in disguise. When you pair these speakers with the S10.3 subwoofer the sound is truly "Theater-esque". So, if you are in the market for new speakers or maybe an upgrade from old ones I couldn't recommend these any more.

FYI: I used 12 gauge speaker wire and banana plugs on all speakers except the subwoofer, and the DirecTv HD-DVR, Xbox 360, PS3 are all connected to the Onkyo 507 via HDMI with one HDMI running out of the receiver to the TV.

I looked hard and did a lot of research before getting these Speakers, I am a big fan of Klipsh Polk, and Boston speakers, but I have to say, I am now a bigger fan of Energy now
I hooked these up to my new Denon, and it didnt take long to fall in love with the crisp clean sound that these put out, I never herd much about Energy before I started reading reviews, and I found out that are made by Klipsh , so I had to see what they sounded like

Get these speakers and you wont be sorry, they are worth every penny, and then some.
You will need a good subwoofer to get the full effect, Im running a Energy ESW-C8 Subwoofer NIB 240 Watts, Bose has got nothing when It comes to the sound and cost of this system
The Energy Take Classic 5pk rocks
Dont just take my word for it, read the Cnet review, they pretty much hit it on the head
