My daughter has been on Nutramigen Lipil for about 5 months now for her acid reflux. It has really helped with her spitting up and digesting the food quicker. 5.0 out of 5 stars A lifesaver, July 31, 2010
This review is from: Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL with Enflora Powder for Infants with Iron, 12.6-Ounce Cans (Case of 6) (Health and Beauty)
This formula has been a real lifesaver for my son. He had a difficult time digesting every formula we tried from NeoSure to Lactose Free to Soy. Unlike the other reviews, I believe the Enflora has helped. On the can, it recommends not warming the product because it inhibits the enflora to work. I believe this to be true. In order to save money, if my son didn't drink a bottle I made because I thought he was hungry and he wasn't, I would save and warm later. It seemed as though whenever I would warm, he would scream with pain until he either gassed or pooped. Pretty much what he did with all the other formulas he was on. We use room temperature water when mixing and it seems to be the key. I would recommend giving this formula a try. It's expensive, but if it helps your baby, it's worth it. Sign-up with Enfamil online and they'll send you coupons. Good luck. I understand how difficult it is dealing with a baby in pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relief began with the first bottle!, December 12, 2010

After nearly 4 months of changing my diet, stopping my medications (not a great idea), fighting with my baby to nurse, dealing with a screaming baby every time I finally got her to eat, constipation and mucousy stools, putting her on Zantac and then Miralax, and then, finally having her refuse to eat at all; my pediatrician had me trial her on Nutramigen. The first bottle showed an amazing turn around!!! After the office visit I was out and didn't have any bottles so I did one last nursing which she fought the whole way through. The next feeding I gave her a bottle of Nutramigen and she calmly drank, finished the whole thing and burped easily. No struggling, no crying, no pain! Just a calm, happy, baby, finally! Admittedly it's taken a few weeks to get past her mucousy stools, constipation and she still needs the Zantac but I am so happy this formula exists.

Another good thing is that it doesn't smell like normal formula. Not being used to formula, this was a relief for me.

Cons: it's not cheap and it's quite hard to find coupons or cheap prices. Most annoyingly is that it's very difficult to find multi-can packs with the 19.8 oz cans. It's mostly just the 12.6 oz cans. It works out cheaper than buying the larger cans since they aren't coming in discounted packs but it just seems so wasteful to have all these little cans to throw out.

Typically this formula causes an increase in frequency and runniness of stools. For us that's a good thing since she also has a bad problem with constipation (actually managed to have a BF baby that was constipated tho it's not 'supposed' to happen). She still doesn't stool daily yet but after 3 weeks she's up to every other or every 2 days (from over a week between). The stool smells aweful, though!

If your baby has a milk protein allergy, this is an excellent choice!

Nutramigen worked a miracle for my youngest child. She is one happy, stinking girl. No doubt it stinks, and it is painfully expensive, but there is nothing to compare if you really need it. I'm just glad it exists. If you use it, you probably already know its value, and you are just trying to get the best price. This review is really to make people aware of "Subscribe and Save", when you order product from Amazon itself, if you don't already know about it. It seems it is available only when you order the product from Amazon, not other vendors, which makes sense. The savings are considerable and can add up in a hurry. It also helps you quantify how much you are actually using. In our case, it was nearly double what I originally thought, which made the savings much more significant. Subscribe and Save is easy to use, update and track, and you just save money on something you must buy anyway. Once set up, be sure to go to the "Subscribe and Save" tab, at the top, to make changes to quantity and/or frequency, so you don't end up with duplicates. Great program Amazon. Thanks.

My daughter has been on Nutramigen Lipil for about 5 months now for her acid reflux. It has really helped with her spitting up and digesting the food quicker. Since the stores in our area decided to discontinue carrying this type of formula and started stocking the Nutramigen with Enflora, I've had to switch over to using that instead.
For one thing, it is much more expensive. It's a 12.6 oz can instead of a 16 oz. can. The scoop inside is much larger so you are using more formula per bottle. They say the reason for the scoop being larger is that the formula is less dense. In any case, it is still costing you more money (as if it wasn't expensive enough already.)
In our case, our daughter is now suffering very painful gas pains, especially in the middle of the night, since we've started using this new type of formula. She is also pooping much more frequently during the day. Before she would go about once a day, now it's about 4 times a day.
I've called Enfamil to see how I could obtain the original formula and they looked up their past orders to see who in my area has ordered it recently. All the names they gave me were stores I am familiar with and have personally checked to see if they stocked it, which they do not. Fortunately, I found a case of it here on Amazon for much cheaper then they (Enfamil) or any grocery store could ever offer.
I'm not sure why they felt it necessary to add Enflora to this formula if for no other reason than to make even more money.
I strongly recommend that if you are going to start your child on Nutramigen, to get the formula that does NOT contain Enflora. Check with your pediatrician first to see if they have any free samples they can give you. I am eagerly awaiting my case of Nutramigen Lipil so that I can once again enjoy a full night of sleep without waking up to my baby crying out in pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really saved my sanity, February 15, 2011
This review is from: Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL with Enflora Powder for Infants with Iron, 12.6-Ounce Cans (Case of 6) (Health and Beauty)
I have 7 week old twin girls, and one of my girls begining at 3 weeks of age began to have uncontrolable crying especially towards the evening hours from 10-2am sometimes. Her crying wasn't a normal fussy cry it was an 'I'm in pain' cry. It was incredibly hard and frustrating not being able to do anything except push through 3-4 hours of crying while trying to care for her sister. I switched to Similac Sensitive thinking it was gas, it helped only SLIGHTLY. I was desperate so I delt with the slight help I could get, but the crying conitnued. It was frustrating looking for help online only to be told it's colic and "nothing can be done". I called my peds office which I also worked at and asked to see one of the doctors whome all I trust personally after another terrible night of her painful crying.
I explained the situation and the doctor said it was a possible milk protien allergy and her little body just couldn't break down the cow's milk properly and was causing upset stomach and pain. It made sense as I was a vegan and didn't drink cow's milk myself it may have effected her.
He gave me some Enfamil Nutramigen and said to try it out for a few days to see if there was any difference.
That night Friday I gave her a bottle and she did still fuss through the night, the next night after only giving her Nutramigen she cried but MUCH less. After that Saturday night she never cried her horrific cry again and the crying seemed to cease all together in the evening.
It's only been two weeks, but it's been such a life saver. Not just for her having no more pain and being able to sleep now with complete comfort and getting her rest, but for my sanity!! I'm finally getting some rest myself and feel peace knowing she isn't in pain and she is happy.
I believe this product is wonderful and would suggest anyone at least give it a shot. Not one formula works for all babies, this may not be the perfect one for some babies but it's obvious that it is for many with the milk protien condition or 'colic'.
The price is high but a happy healthy baby's price is worth much more.
I pray you all can have a happy healthy baby!

5.0 out of 5 stars Made all the difference in the world, February 12, 2011
This review is from: Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL with Enflora Powder for Infants with Iron, 12.6-Ounce Cans (Case of 6) (Health and Beauty)
From the time my son was 30 hours old, we knew something wasn't right. He began having all sorts of problems that only got worse for the 3 months that I exclusively breastfed him. He had acid reflux, stomach cramping, explosive and painful gas that hit 2 hours after he ate, foamy stools, green stools, light colored stools, fussiness at the breast, hives, eczema, rashes, diarrhea and mucus in his stools, and the final straw was blood in his stools. Not just a little, but more blood than poop. We saw several doctors and I tried several exclusion diets, the final one consisted of me only being able to eat chicken, pears, rice and potatoes. We had this poor child that was in almost constant discomfort or pain. It was gut-wrenching to watch. Our son's pediatrician, who is also a major advocate for breastfeeding, finally suggested Nutramigen. All his symptoms pretty much disappeared! He occasionally has reflux (especially if we have him on too fast of a bottle nipple) and some gas due to constipation from the formula. But we now have a child that is happy that laughs and plays. For the first 3 months, he needed constant attention, cried if he wasn't being held, and was up a lot at night. He now can lay by himself and play. He is a completely different child. We finally saw a pediatric GI and nutrition specialist who said it is food allergies to something, and that Nutramigen is the best bet until we can figure out what he is allergic to. It has broken my heart not to nurse him because I believe it is what is best for him, but I can't argue with the results we have seen since putting him on this formula. I hate the cost, but it is worth every cent. And I use the $5 coupons whenever I buy it which helps a lot. And the specialist said that if I give him probiotics (found at local health food stores), they will mimic most benefits of breastmilk. One last thing, I tried to get it covered by my insurance but was unsuccessful. But, if you have any luck at all, it will probably be with the prescription side of your insurance, not the medical part. Some will cover it if your pediatrician's office call them with all the child's clinical data and why it's a necessity. Good luck!

This review is from: Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL with Enflora Powder for Infants with Iron, 12.6-Ounce Cans (Case of 6) (Health and Beauty)
The first week after our son was born, he was a perfect baby. At the two week mark, he was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy, acid reflux, and colic, not to mention he wanted to be held constantly. After giving up dairy and soy in order to breastfeed but having issues with my supply and other awful things no mother should ever have to go through that shall remain nameless, I finally caved and gave my son some of this formula which my pediatrician had given me a free sample of "just in case." I had major guilt in even thinking about giving this to him since every breastfeeding book you read makes formula seem like the worst thing you can give your child. I got over that in a heartbeat when I saw how quickly this formula satisfied my son. He was like a completely different baby. He is now a 100% formula baby and couldn't be happier. I never used the previous "model" formula as this is our first child. What I can say is there is no price too high to pay for the health and happiness of our son, and this formula has made us a happy family once again.

Since I had my daughter, she has been through 5 different formulas before finally being able to tolerate Nutramigen. Yes, it's expensive but so much worth the price. When your child has acid reflux, milk and soy food allergies to the point where blood and intestinal tissue is found in their stools (as mine did), the price is insignificant. Even with trying the Similac brand, Alimentum, it didn't work and she didn't like this formula.

At about three weeks old my breastfeed son started to get fussy. At first we thought it was just typical colic but it got worst everyday for the next week. He was crying/screaming longer and would not calm down for hours. It didn't seem like normal fussing. Our doctor told us to try the Nutramigen and it really made a difference. Since I still wanted to breastfeed, the doctor suggested I go on a dairy and wheat free diet for several weeks and then try him on breastmilk again. My son is now 12 weeks olds and we have tried to give him breastmilk several times since starting him of the formula. Each time we had the same result. He would scream and kick. He got constipated and had bad gas and wouldn't sleep much for a few days until the breastmilk was completely out of his system. I don't know what I would do if this product was not available. He is a happy, smiling, adorable infant when he is drinking this. Totally worth the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE it!, July 14, 2011
This review is from: Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL with Enflora Powder for Infants with Iron, 12.6-Ounce Cans (Case of 6) (Health and Beauty)
My daughter was having trouble keeping her formula down. We started with Similac Advanced, then Soy, then Gerber Good Start Gentle and no matter what all she did was puke it back up. The doctor recommended this formula and gave me some samples to try. Within at least 3 days I noticed she wasn't spitting up pretty much at all. A little right after she ate but nothing compared to what she used to. She can now get through the day in the same outfit she started in and I don't have to wash burp clothes everyday. This formula has been a lifesaver.
