Improved our baby's iron count 11 points!,

This review is from: Enfamil Tri-Vi-Sol Vitamins A, D & C Supplement Drops with Iron for Infants, 50ml Bottles (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
Our child was exclusively breastfed during her first year so our pediatrician recommended either Trivisol or Polyvisol with iron. I think the earlier one star reviewer may have been talking about the terrible smell and taste of polyvisol because she/he is right, it just plains smells bad (like very strong medicine smell) and my baby does not look forward to taking it. Trivisol on the other hand smells fine and my child actually opens her mouth almost like she is expecting a treat, so I would stick with the Trivisol unless you have a specific need for Polyvisol. Our child's hematocrit count went from a substandard 28 to an excellent 39 after just 6 weeks using the Trivisol! That is just one easy dose per day. So I have to give this 5 stars because we really haven't changed anything in our child's diet except for adding Trivisol. They make this with iron and without so be careful when ordering to specify with iron if your child needs the extra iron...

We bought these vitamins after our pediatrician recommended them for our daughter. She's not crazy about them, but will take the dose directly from the dropper. They have a strong metallic odor and taste (from the iron.) I did not try mixing these with breast milk/cereal/juice. I doubted any of the mentioned items would be successful masking the taste and why ruin a serving of milk/cereal/juice if she won't drink/eat it anyway. The liquid vitamin stains clothing/bibs. After washing, it leaves a dark grey blotch wherever the liquid comes in contact with the fabric. I tried spraying Oxy Clean as a pre-treater one time before washing and the result was a huge bleached-out spot on a pink bib. Definitely have a bib you don't mind staining around for these. Or use a wet paper towel to catch any excess while it's on baby's chin. Re: price. Amazon's has the best price. If you're unsure whether or not your baby will take these, I recommend buying a single bottle from your local pharmacy. You may want to call first and make sure the store sells the drops with iron. Or check the Enfamil website for a list of stores that do. Most pharmacies sell the Tri-Vi-Sol Vitamins, but not all offer the drops with iron.

My babys doctor recomende I get these because babys need more vitamin D. I couldnt find them in any store so I bought a 3 pack. Honestly I forget to give them most of the time. They do have a funny smell and my son does make that "sour face" and shake his head when I give him them. I have been squirting a dropper full into his baby oatmeal. This seems fine.
