Best Wedding Book For Guys,
By Sari (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Engaged Groom: You're Getting Married. Read this Book. (Paperback)
I gave this to my future husband to read just a few days ago and he devoured it overnight, laughing and enjoying himself along the way. I think he learned a lot too, because now he's helping out a lot more with wedding planning. I wound up flipping through the book and thought it was as good if not better than some of the books written for brides!
My favorite part was the bit about the worst songs to play at your wedding! I had heard two of them at a wedding I went to just a week before. Based on my groom's initial reaction and my impression, I highly recommend this book, since too many others are either too silly or too serious. This seems to strike just the right tone.

Pracitcal AND funny, a good mix,
By Sam (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Engaged Groom: You're Getting Married. Read this Book. (Paperback)
This book has a lot of good practical advice, like when to get a marriage license. For someone getting married out of state, this was very helpful. I also thought some of the money-saving tips were unique and not your standard fare. There was a part on dealing with problem guests that has been very helpful since we've had to deal with a lot of these types of people and as the groom I usually have to smoothe over a few egos and play peacemaker. To top it off, there's a great section about bachelor parties goes beyond other books and talks about how people really feel about strip clubs, both men and women.
To keep it interesting Gordon puts in a lot of funny stuff, like lists of songs that are inappropriate to play at a wedding and an answer to the question of whether or not throwing rice at a wedding is harmul to birds. (It's not, but his explanation is really amusing and well written.) I got this as a gift and thought it was really helpful, one source for all of my questions. Four months to go before my wedding and there's still a lot I learned.

The Best Wedding Advice Out There,
By
This review is from: The Engaged Groom: You're Getting Married. Read this Book. (Paperback)
Forget about all the other books and magazines offering advice - Gordon's book is the real deal. His writing is clever and balanced. As a woman, I too can appreciate the advice Gordon gives, without feeling like the decisions I need to make are life threatening. Other bridal literature makes a bride feel like they need to make the best, most expensive choices to have the perfect day. Gordon reminds us to make decisions together, and from the heart. The wedding should reflect who we are, not what society dictates.

Helpful, funny, a great read for any guy,

My bride gave me this even though I didn't think I'd help out too much. But I had a few questions and this really helped. It was funny, which helped, since any book that takes things too seriously wouldn't work for me. I had questions about the budget, since I was paying for somethings and trying to figure out who would pay for the rest, and I also had questions about invitations, who to invite, etc. This worked for me. I will pass it on to friends when they get married.

Funny, informative, and personal,
By Bob Barnacle (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Engaged Groom: You're Getting Married. Read this Book. (Paperback)
Doug Gordon's witty writing style guides the otherwise clueless groom through the preparatory steps leading up to the wedding. The book is a fun, educating read, and is best accompanied by perusing the author's blog; by the end, you'll feel like you actually lived the experience with him.

The best groom's book out there,

This review is from: The Engaged Groom: You're Getting Married. Read this Book. (Paperback)
All of the other books for grooms are condescending, treat the groom like he's an idiot, or warn him about his "bridezilla". This one's the antithesis of all of that, and actually provides good information for the groom with a question about any part of the wedding. It doesn't need to be read cover-to-cover, and provides a positive spin on handling tough situations.

Got this as a gift from my bride's friend. Glad she bought it for me, because I really enjoyed it. I needed a sane look on weddings and I got it with this book. It's funny without being too unserious. Sentimental at times without being too mushy. Basically what I want our wedding to be...a lot of fun with light and serious moments. Highly recommened!

i bought this for my fiance. we are long distance and planning the wedding from a few countries away, so i thought that since he is a captive audience downrange i could send him any reading material i thought appropriate. i read this before i sent it to him, and i pretty much liked everything.
i hope that he reads it with an open mind. .. . . . right now he is thinking about having his manly man play and drinkfest with his friends the night prior to the wedding, and now he can read it in a book (instead of just me) of why that isn't a good idea. (wanna know what it says to do the night before? SLEEP.) anyway, i think it will give perspective and let him think about a few things that otherwise could not be imagined. so many details and decisions!!!

Need help planning your wedding....read this book.,

My fiance and I (the Engaged Groom) are planning our wedding, and have less time than you'd normally have to make all our arrangements. We are also trying to be budget concious and not go overboard. So far there is nothing a-typical about our wedding. The Engaged Groom has been so very helpful of providing a good overview of what needs to be done, when, and how. I thought I had all the answers until I read this book. I feel better prepared now and have a much better grasp on where we can cut corners, and the do's and don'ts of the wedding world....but primarily the message is, make sure you have the wedding YOU want, and not the wedding everyone TELLS YOU you need.....thanks Doug Gordon, your book is a life-saver.
