As a result of the challenges of a new world order we are forced to approach learning through the lens of creativity. Our culture is on the brink of a paradigm shift in consciousness and the most important tool we can present to our children is the gift of the creative process. The Project Approach creates an environment for children to employ and develop the creative process in an atmosphere that does not place limitations and time restrictions on their creativity. The Project Approach is not restricted by the mantra, "five more minutes" until a transition takes place.

Ms. Katz's Project Approach allows children to plan-do-review a project according to their interest in a flexible framework that enhances the creative thought process. The Project Approach promotes the development of the brain, because it affords children the opportunity to develop the intellectual dispositions that enhance the higher functions of the brain. This teaching strategy encourages children to collaborate and solve the challenges that are presented in the development of their project. The Project Approach sees learning as an experiential integrative process; children become engaged in their own learning. Educators guide the children in this process, allowing them to hypothesize and predict an outcome. Since there is no right or wrong in the development of the project, it encourages children to take risks and embrace learning through the process of creative thought. I question the current methods of education that do not engage children in utilizing extended thought and developing creativity. When educators encourage long-term projects they are encouraging children to engage collectively and democratically in a project that they choose according to their interest.

I really liked the information in this book. It really helped me understand the project approach, since I was very new to the concept. I have really gotten lots of positive "reviews" from both my preschoolers and their parents. I used many of the suggestions in a Science Camp format for only a few hours/few days. I couldn't go as in-depth, but I was able to have the children "connect" with the environment and learn so much. They were curious, excited and ready to learn more.
