About the Author

Matt Glover is a full-time educational consultant and author. He is the coauthor (with Katie Wood Ray) of Already Ready (2008) and author of Engaging Young Writers, Preschool-Grade 1 (2009). Matt is a frequent presenter at conferences and in school districts on topics related to nurturing young writers and supporting children's intellectual growth and development. Matt has been an educator for over 20 years, including 12 years as the principal and instructional leader of Creekside Early Childhood School, a school of 900 preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students. Before becoming a principal, Matt taught first grade. Matt lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, with his wife and four children.

This book talks about engaging kids to help them see even small experiences as invitations to write. This book did a nice job of showing how simple that can be, and gave great examples of books from Pre-K and K writers. The book also gave some nice in-roads through literature to help students to understand reading and writing like authors. It provided a good, easy to read jumping off point to start to work on really engaging students in writing and doing it with purpose. What I needed was more meat, more ideas about the ways we invite kids to write through experiences. I was sold on many of the ideas, but really wanted more help or discussion on what that would look like or how it would work. I kept waiting and getting more and more sold on the ideas, but in the end, I felt like I got a great idea without anything to go on from there. Still worth reading.
