This review is from: Engelbert Humperdinck - His Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Engelbert Humperdinck - His Greatest Hits gives us some pretty awesome hits from the great Engelbert Humperdinck. Engelbert sounds great on this CD of what is really just some of his best songs. Ten songs can't truly do justice to this fine vocalist; and that's a disappointment. However, what we do get is such high quality that I can almost (almost) forgive a short track set. The sound quality is excellent and the artwork reflects good judgment as well.

"Release Me" begins the track set with a love ballad that could only be performed this well by the great Engelbert Humperdinck. Engelbert sings this very sweetly and his voice is full of warmth, passion and a certain masculine type of grace. Great! The music that accompanies Engelbert Humperdinck is also very well written and performed. "Quando Quando Quando" is a song that Engelbert sings to perfection; he can't wait to be with his one true love; the backup vocalists bolster Engelbert's performance and "Quando Quando Quando" leaves nothing to be desired! I love it.

"Spanish Eyes" is another highlight of this album; and Engelbert delivers this ballad with panache. Engelbert sings with all his heart and you can tell it's so when you hear him belt out this terrific ballad. Engelbert never misses a note. "A Man Without Love" has great percussion and guitar; and Engelbert sings this with a marvelous backup set of vocalists. "A Man Without Love" is a ballad that is so true about life and love that just about any guy can identify with this fine tune.

"There Goes My Everything" has a slight country flavor to it but as always when Engelbert sings it all holds its own very well. The chimes are nice and this ballad has a very pretty melody that charms me completely. It's a sad song but when Engelbert delivers it the overall effect is like listening to gold. "The Way It Used To Be" laments a love gone awry; Engelbert Humperdinck performs this with heart and soul; the drums and percussion add a lot to "The Way It Used To Be," too.

"Winter World Of Love" places Engelbert squarely front and center--right where he belongs! Listen also for the final track entitled "The Last Waltz." "The Last Waltz" is a charming ballad about finding one's true love and the keyboard arrangement greatly enhances the beauty of this number. Engelbert handles "The Last Waltz" with style and it makes a fine ending for this album.

Now I don't have any qualms with the song selection or the quality of Engelbert's performances here. I do, however, mind that they couldn't add at least another song--or maybe even two--to this CD. That's a disappointment but not a major one because Engelbert's work is so good anyway. This CD is great for both Engelbert Humperdinck fans and the more casual fan who wants a sampling of Engelbert's artistry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb, despite lacking "After the Lovin'", May 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Engelbert Humperdinck - His Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Every track on this disc is essential Engy, if only it had After The Lovin' it would be perfect (that song was released years after this compilation, so it isn't entirely the record label's fault.) If you like the man, go for this collection over the others! It has the best collection of his early hits. You probably won't find one that has ALL the great hits, you may have to buy two. (Or, get the Rhino Have A Nice Day disc with After the Lovin on it.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Englebert-In A class by himself, May 7, 1999

This review is from: Engelbert Humperdinck - His Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD is a must for any Englebert Fan. It is unfortunate that you cannot go to a record store and access Englebert's complete discography as you can with other famous singers. This is because most of his Parrot albums are out of Print and have not been reissued on CD. However the cuts from these albums that comprise his Greatest hits will live on forever. He is truly one of the great voices of the 20th Century.

This is Engelbert at his peak. I love his emotional singing, the arrangements and the songs. The sound quality is SUPERB, the sound mix can a bit annoying at times - wide STEREO seperation but I guess that was the thing to do back then. Granted, AFTER THE LOVIN is not on here but in my book it's really only a 4 star song.

If you get a chance to see Engelbert in concert, do so. He sounds great and does most of these songs in his shows. Now if he only had a full orchestra backing him as on these recordings......

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST OF ENGLEBERT'S GREATEST HITS PACKAGES, December 15, 2004
This review is from: Engelbert Humperdinck - His Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I have owned this albumn in several incarnations since it's original 1974 release: LP, 8-Track (really!), casette and CD. This is the best of the Englebert greatest hits packages and these 10 cuts (from the late 1960's and early 1970's) remain a definitive body of his work. AM I THAT EASY TO FORGET, THE WAY IT USED TO BE and WINTER WORLD OF LOVE provide indulable memory burn. Why didn't Englebert sing any of the James Bond themes?

5.0 out of 5 stars The knight of the crooners!, October 31, 2005
This review is from: Engelbert Humperdinck - His Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Engelbert Humperdinck `s name has remained for almost five decades in the great musical stages. In Spain there is a term that fits so well to describe his magnetism: Duende.

He shone with radiant intensity in the Age of the great crooners, the most difficult, indeed: Frankie, Tony Bennet, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Matt Monroe, Bobby Vinton, Booby Goldsboro, Glenn Campbell, O.C. Smith, Otis Reading, Pat Boone, Kenny Rogers, Paul Anka and Neil Diamond (from time to time) among the most remarkable ones.

His peculiar style has deserved him the best acknowledgments all over the world. His multifacetic repertoire and elegant voice confers him presence and conviction every time he appears on stage.

His name is now a legend. Go for this admirable collection, you will enjoy it over and over.

4.0 out of 5 stars His Of His Prime In One Collection, July 24, 2006
By
This review is from: Engelbert Humperdinck - His Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD is a re-issue of an album originally released on the Parrot label in the US in the early 70's and contains most of Engelbert's Top 40 hits and more memorable album cuts. Licensing conflicts between record companies lead to the exclusion of some early 70's material that was (like this album) originally issued on the Parrot label but overall this one disc set captures about 85 percent of Engelbert's most memorable hit material. This set does pre date 1976's "After The Lovin" album and single so that material is not included. Among the radio hits featured are Top 20 staples like "A Man Without Love", "Am I That Easy To Forget", "Winter World Of Love", and of course his break out hit "Release Me". For the casual fan or the budget conscious this is a good set.

I've been an Engelbert Fan for years! "THE WAY IT USED TO BE" became a favorite of mine when it was first released and has remained a special favorite for all these years. I said back then he was the best! He's still around after over 30 years, doing tremendously fabulous wonderful concerts and new recordings! WHAT MORE CAN I SAY--ENGELBERT'S THE GREATEST!

I actually ordered this with another item, this album has reach me, but the other item is still waiting for stock i presume..

Anyway, i am always a fan of oldies, but, i oftenest prefer compilation albums with various artist rather than a single artist.

But this album is an exception, it has all the songs that we all know.., such as "Release Me", "Quando, Quando, Quando".., "Am I That Easy To Forget ", "A Man Without Love", "There Goes My Everything", and my most favourite "The Last Waltz"..

The sound quality is awesome, it's an original recording remastered.., based on the info, it was first released back at the year of 1974, a good work for remastered this one.

Get one today for your oldies collection!
