Engelbert Humperdinck - Totally Amazing

This recent offering from Engelbert Humperdinck is marvelous on many levels. Recorded in concert at the Rama Casino in Ontario, Canada in October of 2005, it is one of the best live recordings I have ever heard, with the balance between band and singer perfect, and the audience "there" but never intrusive. The band is simply incredible, and reminds me of the great bands Frank Sinatra used, and it is also versatile, with a terrific honkey tonk sound on a couple of numbers with "Jerry Lee Lewis" style piano playing that makes me want to get up and dance. What is Totally Amazing is Engelbert's voice, which at nearing 70 here, is slightly huskier, but full and rich and very powerful. He sings his hits of yesteryear as though it was decades ago, with the same vigor he has kept throughout his 40 year career.

The songs are a marvelous mix of new and old, with some of his biggest hits, like his first smash, "Release me," and one of my very favorites, "Love Me with All of Your Heart," and a soaring rendition of "I Wish You Love," as well as some that Engelbert fans may not have heard before (unless they were at the concert) like the title song. Some of the best and most gratifying for me are the astounding "Cry," Johnny Ray's hit from 1951, given a spectacular performance, and most unexpected and uplifting is the final entry, a moving tribute to those in uniform, the sublime "Columns of Grey," exquisitely sung. This beautiful CD was a surprise gift, one that will be appreciated for years to come, and is a CD that will delight all of Engelbert's many fans, as well as those who enjoy the best of standards and some fresh material, sung by a master entertainer. Total playing time is 71'30.

It is what the title says "Totally Amazing". The songs are tremendous especially his version of "My Way". His voice still has the same impact on me that it did back in the 70's. Great album - all fans of Engelbert shouldn't be without it.

I am a long-time, totally dedicated fan and found this CD just fantastic. It is the closest thing to being right there, orchestra center, listening to this superb voice. Engelbert is so powerful, and conveys emotion with every note. You only need to see one concert to fall hopelessly in love with him. This CD comes close to simulating that feeling. Great Music Engelbert, YOU are TOTALLY AMAZING... that's what YOU are!!!!!

Received my CD today and have been enjoying it tremendously.
Engelbert's voice is just so incredible now and actually is(Totally Amazing) so what a pleasure to get and listen to this new CD. How refreshing and inspiring and the sound is absolutely great. It was almost like being at one of his concerts and I could just visualize his performance in my mind so I am really looking forward to getting the DVD soon. Now if you have hesitated and not ordered the CD and DVD, do so right away, order both as you will be in for a treat and Engelbert's incredible voice will certainly lift your spirits.

I have been a fan of Engelbert's for forty years and he just gets better with age. His voice still shines and captures your heart. Bravo!

excellant cd. love the title song. if you like his music buy it. I also have the dvd. same for the dvd 5 stars.

This CD is a great reminder of the excellent live Engelbert show I witnessed at the Orleans in Vegas this year (2006) on opening night. The track listing is very similar - almost identical. Great show. Great CD. Great job on the classics. Great job on the new material. Great version of My Way. And the song Columns of Gray is an automatic classic in my book. It gives me chills to listen to it's so great.

Engelbert is a living legend and I thank him for the show and for this CD. It's totally amazing!

The CD is almost (Almost) like being at one of his concerts of which I have been to many. Every womans dream, romantic and the sound quality is wonderful
