Engelbert Live And At His Best!, August 5, 2003

This new cd "ENGELBERT LIVE", is Engelbert Humperdinck captured at his best. Recorded in June 1995, and shown on PBS as "Engelbert Live Unchained" years ago, it was a nice surprise to see Eagle Records not only release this on cd, but 5 bonus tracks not seen on PBS are included for our audio pleasure. This concert is in excellent sound quality, and most of the songs on here were 50s & 60s classics, some of Engelbert's favorite songs as he was starting as a perfomer. What a treat to hear Enge sing "Ave Maria" simply breathtaking, or the underrated "Portofino". And finally we get Engelbert singing a slowed down version of "Release Me". For years Enge has sung this song way too fast in concert, maybe cause he has performed it thousands of times, but knowing this was being recorded, he slows down this classic to it's original form. Fans will delight in Engelbert singing songs from Nat King Cole, Billy Eckstine, Tony Bennett, and Elvis Presley. A must have cd for any Engelbert fan, and a really good way to introduce yourself to the voice of the 20th Century, Engelbert George Arnold Dorsey Humperdinck.
