We have an EnGenius ESR150H that we use as an Access Point and we have had it for nearly a year now. Although I had problems figuring out the setup and User Interface and didn't have much success with their technical support team helping me set it up as cascaded from LAN to WAN I decided to compromise and connect it cascaded LAN to LAN with the DHCP disabled. The main router is performing the the DHCP serving and it is working fine. I wanted the ESR150H to be in a seperate subnet and to do it's own DHCP serving as I don't need to share anything (files, printers, etc...) with devices on the main router. I just wanted internet connectivity to go to the ESR150H to use with iPhones, iPads, Laptops, etc... I also wanted the extra security of knowing that no one can get in to the main router (and CAT 5 wired computers) but I ended up having to add another cascaded LAN to WAN Router/AP on a different subnet and connected it to the wired and wireless computers that do need to share files, printers, etc...

Anyhow, the router has been very stable and it is very fast. I also have another 802.11n router (Linksys/Cisco E2500) that I find much easier to configure but for some reason is quite a bit slower. Because it is so much slower I even disabled the encryption temporarily on the Cisco E2500 (was WPA2 just like on the EnGenius) to see if it could match the speed of the ESR150H but it couldn't.

Overall I am very happy with the stability, the power (200mW as apposed to many AP's having only 32mW of power) and the speed. Perhaps the unit can be cascaded from LAN to WAN with DHCP enabled (like I was able to do with the Cisco E2500) but I couldn't figure it out... even with the help of EnGenius tech support. I would have given the unit 5 stars if I was able to do what I wanted! That being said, if you are going to simply use this as a router or an access point, like the majority of people, I am sure that you'll absolutely love this Engenius ESR150H !

For either novices or seasoned WiFi networking folks, the web configuration UI really is either slow, inadequate or buried under counter-intuitive screens. I highly recommend folks open the PDF manual documentation that accompanies the unit either on the CDROM disc or download from the internet and go methodically through the Wizard initially. I jumped right in and got the unit up, but to setup special security where I wanted an AP mode but to bridge without WAN turned on, with delegated DHCP to another router master on the LAN, it took some sleuthing (I had to turn NAT off explicitly -which it should be by default on the LAN - to enable DHCP passthru). While I'm not a stickler for MAC address filtering with WPA security, some folks might demand it, and it's cumbersome to setup because you need to enable "Parental Controls" and create a new Policy and enable MAC filtering on it. Without visibility on how the device excludes MACs in the filter tables, I guess I can't be really sure that filtering algorithms work. However, the device has some good error checking. I won't let you set WAN and LAN ports to colliding subnets or the WAN port to a non-routable address which is a good thing for some. I bought this device mostly because of the detachable antenna and so I could mount a 9 dBi omni on the outside of my house to it, through the wall, and thus increase range and sensitivity for all mobile devices. This replaced a Dlink unit for about the same cost that I found out didn't have a detachable antenna, and now I'm able to get clean signal and even do system backups from remote nodes on my network without much issue. For the price, it was a good buy. I'd recommend it for basic AP use and if you want to add a single booster antenna to your unit for better signal.

Setup for My Slingbox was easy. I did not change anything, just used the default setting, the slingbox was connected to the net.

Comparing to my high priced router, this one seems very stable. The wifi signal is very consistent,no signal break at all. Great value and great quality.

I have used several different manufacturer's wireless routers in my company. We design and install local area networks for computers using wireless routers. All other manufacturer's routers that we have used in the past have had the ability to use MAC Address filtering for security. I tried for a few hours to find this feature on the EnGenius router, but could not. I contacted EnGenius' technical support staff. The first person I spoke with did not appear to know what I was talking about. He put me in touch with another person. That person, too, could not tell me how to find this feature. I studied the router and its features a few days later, but still no luck. I called the EnGenius technical staff again, but they still did not know what I was talking about. I tried for a third time last week, but got no response. I left a voice message, but have had no response as of tonight (Monday)evening. This gives me the imnpression that this conpany is not very technically savvy. I don't believe I saved the box the unit came in; so I am probably stuck with a device that is of no use to me, and a small financial loss for my company.
