terrific book,
By Robert McArthur (Newark, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2001 (Paperback)
This is a terrific book using part and assembly creation in a project situation. The book provides a very useful step-by-step procedure. It is very easy to follow and to understand. I took a one-week SolidWorks course. I learned more from this book, than the $3,000 course. This is the only book that I have been able to obtain which provides information on Injection Molded Design using SolidWorks. There are good exercises in the back of each chapter.

The Title is Misleading,
By Rick (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2001 (Paperback)
I bought this book based mostly on the reviews posted here. After opening the book and reading half of the first chapter, I was disappointed.A more appropriate title might be "Techniques and Methodology for Designers using Solidworks". A couple of example excerpts might clarify my sentiments: "Design information is provided from various sources. Ask questions. Part of the learning experience is to know which questions to ask." [I couldn't believe I just spent $60 for these words of wisdom.] "In the real world, there are numerous time contraints. The customer requires a quote, design sketches and a delivery schedule, YESTERDAY! If you wait for all of the required information, you will miss the project deadline." [Precisely my point. I have limited time to trudge through the fictional scenarios that are presented as a teaching methodology in this book. I bought it to learn how to apply some of the same techniques I am familiar with in another solid modeling program, and I needed it to come up to speed quickly in Solidworks.] This is probably a very good book for an AutoCAD designer who is moving into a solid modeling environment, but for a seasoned Pro/Engineer user who wants to learn how to apply the same techniques he is familiar with in Solidworks, it is not a good fit.

Great Book,

This review is from: Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2001 (Paperback)
I an very happy with these authors. I purchased their 99 and 2000 SolidWorks books. They were good books. The 2001 book is great. I enjoyed the sections on Top Down Assembly and the Injection Molded Design Projects. The book is easy to follow. It has a great new step by step command approach. More books shoud be written this way.
