5.0 out of 5 stars terrific book
This is a terrific book using part and assembly creation in a project situation. The book provides a very useful step-by-step procedure. It is very easy to follow and to understand.

I took a one-week SolidWorks course. I learned more from this book, than the $3,000 course. This is the only book that I have been able to obtain which provides information on Injection...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Title is Misleading
I bought this book based mostly on the reviews posted here. After opening the book and reading half of the first chapter, I was disappointed.

A more appropriate title might be "Techniques and Methodology for Designers using Solidworks".

A couple of example excerpts might clarify my sentiments:

I bought this book based mostly on the reviews posted here. After opening the book and reading half of the first chapter, I was disappointed.

A more appropriate title might be "Techniques and Methodology for Designers using Solidworks".

A couple of example excerpts might clarify my sentiments:

"Design information is provided from various sources. Ask questions. Part of the learning experience is to know which questions to ask." [I couldn't believe I just spent $60 for these words of wisdom.]

"In the real world, there are numerous time contraints. The customer requires a quote, design sketches and a delivery schedule, YESTERDAY! If you wait for all of the required information, you will miss the project deadline." [Precisely my point. I have limited time to trudge through the fictional scenarios that are presented as a teaching methodology in this book. I bought it to learn how to apply some of the same techniques I am familiar with in another solid modeling program, and I needed it to come up to speed quickly in Solidworks.]

This is probably a very good book for an AutoCAD designer who is moving into a solid modeling environment, but for a seasoned Pro/Engineer user who wants to learn how to apply the same techniques he is familiar with in Solidworks, it is not a good fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, June 7, 2001
This review is from: Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2001 (Paperback)
I an very happy with these authors. I purchased their 99 and 2000 SolidWorks books. They were good books. The 2001 book is great. I enjoyed the sections on Top Down Assembly and the Injection Molded Design Projects. The book is easy to follow. It has a great new step by step command approach. More books shoud be written this way.

Hi, I'm a Mechanical Engineer and 've been using all kinds of "CAD" for 20 years, My passed 2 years involved teaching foreign students about CAD, On SolidWorks; "Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2001" (compare to the other 2 diff books I've read) is chosen to be as good as the tutorial book student should have for the class, reason? -Good for diff level of students with commonsense, -Coverage; cover most features req'd for students to learn, -Good sample; exercises easy to understand

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, Makes learning SolidWorks easy, March 7, 2002

Overall speaking, this is a good book. The step by step (click by click) instructions makes learning the software easy and would bring a SolidWorks novice to a certain level depending on his/her CAD background. Highly recommended for people who don't have any Solidworks knowledge. I would give it a 5 of 5 if the author would fix some of minor mistakes in the book and add an index at the back like one other reviewer pointed out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok book, August 10, 2001

This book is ok, however, there is no index in the back to look up what commands are and how to implement commands. You have to flip thru the pages until you find what you are looking for. I have recently switched from AutoCAD to SolidWorks and expected something more in depth than what I got. The book is basically a project based book that steps you thru building parts/assemblies. The book does help you learn how to build parts/assmeblies, and is much better than the manual that comes with SolidWorks. Unfortunately, it still lacks a good bit of information along with a index that would help out a great deal.

This book gives an overview of each process, then takes each step clearly teaching how to aproach the projects. I found it very helpful in learning how to orient your thoughts in design and drafting. Looking forward to more texts.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, April 10, 2002
By
This review is from: Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2001 (Paperback)
I am In a class where we are using this as our text book.
This book could have been alot better. For one thing it has a lot of mystakes, especially in the last few chapters. It does teach you many of the bassics of CAD. However, there is a lot of extrainious information that is unneccicary and tends to get in the way. Its very wordy. I did learn plunty from this book, but i think there might be better ones out there. The last two chapters had too many errors to make them very useful. Even my teacher could not figure out some of the things they were talking about, and he's been useing solidworks for years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lack of proper English skills from Lunashores, June 20, 2002
By
This review is from: Engineering Design with SolidWorks 2001 (Paperback)
I was aghast at the numerous spelling and grammatical errors in Lunashores review of this SolidWorks manual.

And this person is studying to become an engineer or drafter? I shudder to think of someone so sloppy in their speech working on designs in which the safety of others would become paramount.

I have been using SolidWorks from the 97 version and found this manual very concise and clear in its intent. I found it helpful and well written.
