Anyone working in the Developing World sometimes needs some advice. The solutions offered in this book cover a wide range of subjects and they are practical and very well illustrated. Do not be intimidated by the "engineering" in this book, it's mostly common sense and useful tables.

I would strongly recommend this book as a reference for aid and develpment workers everywhere for low tech solutions to problems they will encounter.

So I picked this up as I work in a lot of third world countries and I was curious as to what it was all about. This pretty much takes all the practical knowledge and breaks it down into basics, nothing fancy but it gets the job done. IT cover so many different aspects I don't even know here to start. A use read if you work in Africa or other places like that. It can really help out in some situations where must set up camp/infrastructure for a small contingency of workers etc. That is what I use it for but here are so many other practical applications for this it is not even funny. A must for anybody doing engineers without borders or volunteering in disaster zones, etc.

If you borrow a copy via inter-library loan, you will see just how useful it is. Evaluating a potential runway for a C-130 cargo plane by driving a 4X4 down the field at 30 MPH and see if you need to hang on to your seat!

This publication should be mandatory reading for engineers, and more widely aid workers around the world. This publication serves as an excellent aide-memoir for supply of emergency and low cost essential services.

This book is ideal for people working in developing areas. It's a one stop reference guide to pretty much everything.
