"Engineering Management" by Hans J. Thamhain is an outstanding introduction to management in engineering contexts. It explores all the major areas of engineering management including organizational structures; planning and executing engineering projects; management tools such as work breakdown structures, task matrixes, project schedules, and earned value systems; information management; marketing; bid proposal development; team building; and conflict resolution. It is a very useful overview of all of these issues and areas to help engineering managers create value and gain competitive advantage in a rapidly changing environment.
