Book Description

June 15, 2008
Two classic tales of the ethics in engineering -- one great failure and one great success. The failure is the story of the events that led up to the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, in which a key engineer was asked to ''take off your engineering hat and put on your management hat.'' The success is the Citicorp skyscraper in New York City, in which case engineer William J. LeMessurier was confronted with a potentially disastrous design weakness in the tower's structure. In both cases, engineering professor Gordon Stubley shows how engineering innovation and management -- as well as the virtue of integrity -- make the difference between death or life.
