Product Description

Editorial Review

The Target card game takes only 5 minutes to learn and is fun for the whole family. Five target cards are placed face up in the center of the table, and each card describes a winning hand. Players take turns drawing a new card and attempting to match one of the target card combinations showing on the table. The rules are simple and the target cards make it easy for everyone to see what it takes to win. The game comes with one pack of target cards and one pack of playing cards. --Margaret Quinn

Deal everyone 5 playing cards, then deal 5 Target cards face up. Set your sights on hitting one of the targets and hope that you do before someone else does! First player to make a meld shown wins the Target card and earns the points. You can even win 2, 3 or maybe all 5 Target cards at the same time. When a Target card is won, a new one replaces it, so the game keeps changing. Simple enough for kids, engaging enough for adults. A great mix of luck and strategy that's fun for everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredibly good rummy game, December 8, 1999

This is an extremely enjoyable rummy game, definitely one of my favorites. Players race to complete the melds on 5 "Target" cards, each of which awards a number of points. When a player completes a meld and claims the card, and new Target card (and hence a new meld requirement) replaces it. With 5 Target cards on the table at a time, you are fighting to hit a group of changing targets.

The key to winning is to make combination melds that fulfill the requirements of two or more Target cards. If you do this, you claim all of those Target cards at once. Claiming two Target cards isn't too tough, but three or four are hard and claiming all five at once is extremely difficult (impossible?). Of course, while you're trying to put together a meld to grab 2 or 3 Target cards your opponent often beats you to one or more of them, so you've got to re-aim your hand at some other Target cards.

I was at Origins (a gaming convention) in Columbus where they were holding a Target tournament, and it's interesting to note that *all* of the players were adults - so while this is a family game suitable for all ages, it has its fans among adults too, it's not a "kid's" game per se.

The cards themselves are of a very high quality. The rules are very clear but could use a few more diagrams. The game is rated ages 8 to adult, and this game will really help younger kids to think a little, though it may take a few hands for the youngest of them to really catch on.

All in all, though, this is my probably my favorite game and may become yours, too.

I got this game for my mom's birthday. She's a game nut, and it seems like each time I see her she has a new game to try out. This one is especially fun because it's simple to understand (there's not much referring to the rules to figure out what you're supposed to be doing) and it's really fast-paced. I hate spending half my time playing a game waiting for someone to take their turn. There's none of that with Target. It's fun, and the action constantly changes.
I recommend the game to anyone tired of the typical card game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, December 31, 2001

I wanted this game because I'm always looking for card games that are fun with two people... or with a whole group. Target is just that.

Other reviews talked about what the game is, so I'll just tell my opinions.

Sometimes the game gets a little boring with only two people. It seems like you're just picking up cards and discarding and not ever getting the right cards to match a target. It was a lot of fun with four people though, and we even had six playing at once.

As for educational value, i rate it very highly. Its a good game for teaching kids to watch for details and plan ahead. My cousin Tyler played it with us, he's 10 I think. He needed some help at first, but then he started matching sets by himself.

The best part was when my cousin Shannon took ALL FIVE target cards in one turn! We were quite mad at her for that trick!
