Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of early releases from the British band: England (1972) and Blondel (1973).The Amazing Blondel are an acoustic Progressive Folk band, consisting of Eddie Baird, John Gladwin, and Terry Wincott. They are sometimes categorized as Psych folk or as Medieval Folk Rock, but their music was much more a reinvention of Renaissance music, based around the use of period instruments such as lutes and recorders. Beat Goes On. 2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music May 1, 2011

I first heard Amazing Blondel in the 70's. Had these 2 as albums. Now I bought them on CD. Wonderful, wonderful music. Not sure how to classify it: classical, rock, Baroque, folk? Somewhere in between all of this. Anyway, the melodies and harmonies just have you humming them for weeks. It's just wonderful music. Seascape is my favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars as they state "Amazing" March 27, 2014

this reissue is a rarity and great for the period, early 70's

the album Blondel was one of my favorites in college

very folky English, with a great sense of sound texture, guitar is great, love the wind-woods, fine vocals

Simon Kirke, drums, Steve Winwood, bass - they must have enjoyed playing with these superior musicians

nuff said !

The words and melodies as heard on this album paint a rich and colorful picture of the English countryside. "Afterglow" is majestic in its descriptions.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Album You Just Gotta Hear ! May 27, 2014
The Amazing Blondel - Blondel (1973)

In their lifetime England's "The Amazing Blondel" released some pretty lovely songs and albums. Blondel (1973) was their 6th album and were a band by then of two featuring the song writing of Eddie Baird and Terry Wincott. With antique-like musical virtues and a certain English charm, "Blondel" glistens and remains IMHO one of their finest albums. "Young Man's Fancy" is one of the finest Amazing Blondel songs which hits spiritual levels for me!

" Enough..........tuck velvet trousers into buccaneer boots, pull on a suede jerkin, light the tallow-lamp, prepare a platter of spiced chicken and pulses, pour copious glasses of mead, pull up a throne to a blazing fire and listen........."

Musically this album departs from the Baroque-Renaissance vibes and instead follows a vocal folk path with top results. Wincott and Baird sing in harmony throughout this album and deliver a delicate bit of beauty for your ears!
