Terry Deary writes both fiction and non-fiction. The Fire Thief was his 150th book published in the UK, this was followed by Flight of the Fire Thief and The Fire Thief Fights Back. Terry's books have been translated into 28 languages. His Horrible Histories series has sold 20 million copies worldwide. Terry has won numerous awards, including Blue Peter's Best Non-fiction Author of the Century.
Like all of Terry Deary's Horrible Histories, this history of England reveals some of the uglier aspects of the rebellions, riots and back stabbing treacheries that most history books leave out. Since the tales are told, tongue in cheek, they are slightly more palatable than as straight forward gore. Tragically amusing, it is still filled with insights which are definitely worth reading since those who don't read history are doomed to repeat the same mistakes again and again.
