Big Band Latin Jazz does not get much better than this!,
By Erik Werkman (Utrecht, Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night in Englewood (Audio CD)
I bought this album when it came out in 1994. After so many years I have played it innumerable times and I still have not get tired of it. The variety of the pieces on the album, closely connected to the fact that this is called the United Nations Orchestra and therefore encompassing all Americas, is amazing and the way this is musically dealt with awesome! It swings like mad and on top of it the recording quality is perfect, too. Paquito is in blazing form on alto sax and clarinet (yes, clarinet and latin can go very well together as in this case) and so is the rest of this amazing band. In my opinion this is easily the best album Paquito has ever recorded (and they are a lot!). Just listen to the opening notes of "Snow Samba" and if you like that (which is impossible not to), I am sure you will melt for the rest of this classic but overlooked gem as well. As a drums and percussion lover my compliments to Adam Cruz at the drum kit, who knows how to drive the music forward (Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez takes over on the album's second piece). Make yourself and others happy and buy this album!
