These 20 favorite English Christmas carols are arranged for a standard 15/14 hammered dulcimer but will easily transfer to the standard 12/11 instrument. Chord symbols have been provided to allow an accompaniment instrument and will also facilitate the player in adding further embellishments and/or variations to the tunes. The standard notation provided will help the player to learn the songs quickly; however, listening to the recording will prove to be an invaluable aid to the "by ear" player as well as to the player who wishes to gain new ideas for arrangements using additional instruments. In addition, lyrics are provided for the player who may wish to accompany a vocal arrangement. For the beginning to advanced player. (The CD with this book is not the same as the Green Hill "An Old English Christmas" CD - 97012CD.)

About the Author

Linda G. Thomas, a career music educator of 30 years, has performed on keyboard, guitar and hammered dulcimer for virtually her entire life. Her degrees include a B. S. in Education and Master of Arts in Teaching. Linda is well-known in the circle of hammered dulcimer competition, having been a finalist in the Southern Regionals in 1994, '95, and '96. She was also a finalist in the Texas State Championship in 1997 and '98 and won that title in 1999. In addition to teaching workshops and performing throughout the US and England, Linda has released 6 recording projects. Linda also writes educational materials which have been published by Mel Bay Publications, Inc.

Thia book is filled with lovely arrangements for the intermediate hammered dulcimer player. The songs are arranged with simple chords, partial chords and grace notes. The songs included are some of the less familiar ones. Since the book comes with a CD you can learn the ones you don't know. Unlike some of the other learning books, this companion CD gives an idea of how the arrangement sounds with other instruments (you can hear the dulcimer clearly, however).
