Great introduction to Medieval English church,
By A Customer
This review is from: The English Church in the Fourteenth Century (MART: The Medieval Academy Reprints for Teaching) (Paperback)
Although somewhat dated (orig pub date 1980), this is still one of the best introductions to the late medieval English Church--describing almost all aspects of church organization, papal relations, clerical education, and even discussing the lives of individual clerics. Perhaps the most valuable section, however, is his last one. Including pastoral instruction manuals, sermon compilations, vernacular treatises, and mystical literature, Pantin provides an excellent survey of the religious literature from the late medieval English church. Moreover, this book is very reader-friendly, making it useful not only to historians and graduate students, but also to any interested person.
