The British had problems with their aviation industry after WW2. Largely due to budgetary reasons, partially due to a sudden lack of creativity that made the Hurricane and Spitfire fighters war winners. This short but very informative book covers the post war-early fifties of the British air industry. The Lighting was the first supersonic British fighter deployed in numbers. It was unusual in that the two engines were not side by side as US or Soviet fighters, but stacked on top of each other. As with many 1950's designs, it needed more enging thrust, more reliable avionics and longer range. I highly recommend this book. It has excellent B&W photos, line drawings of the interor and varients as well as color pages showing paint schemes. While not as famous as the F-86 Saber or MIG-15, the Lightning book deserves its place and history and a place on bookshelves.
