This attractive book contains descriptions and fine quality color photographs of over 60 English herb gardens, which show a wide diversity in planning and design. Although most of the gardens date from 1960 to the present, they have been developed upon historical principles and are often restorations of gardens known to have existed in conjunction with grand manor houses, cottages, and medieval monastic structures. Plants chosen for the gardens may be medicinal, aromatic, or culinary in purpose. Descriptive comments include notes on the architecture and history of the buildings the gardens complement.
