Good starting point for re-enactors,
By Boyd (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: English Longbowman 1330-1515 (Warrior) (Paperback)
For those serious historical re-enactors (or the not so serious) this book is a great starting point for furthering your research (or for straight out copying of clothing styles and accessories). Clive Bartlett is a keen Bowman and Gerry Embleton is both a fine artist and a widely respected historical re-enactor.

One of the Stronger Osprey Titles,
By Wilhelm Ritter (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: English Longbowman 1330-1515 (Warrior) (Paperback)
Osprey books are a mixed bag, and can only ever be introductions to a topic, since they're intended for wargamers and not scholars. Still, the best osprey titles can be very good introductions indeed--this is the case with this title. The text is pretty good, though rather dry as Osprey books often are. The real shining star of this book, though, is the illustration--Gerry Embleton is a very serious historical artist and consultant who's worked for a great number of museums, making displays and whatnot. His illustrations are both very lively and rich in historical detail. The pictures of period artwork and surviving atifacts are also quite good.
At least as good as this volume is the English Knight 1400-1500, also in the Warrior series.

I bought this book as I am getting into English Longbow archery and found this book to be jammed full of useful information. Not nly is it a good reference book for the practice of archery, it is very well written and interesting from front to back. I have ended up buying about thirty more from this series since, I will definetley buy more in the future.

Good but for children,
This review is from: English Longbowman 1330-1515 (Warrior) (Paperback)
I read this book a few years ago. I think it was a good book, but about a third grade reading level. So if you have a mid elamentary child that likes archery or midevil times I would recomend it. If your thirty years old you are prabaly going to want a more detailed book.

This is a must for all archers, if your into english long bows than this is like a bible! Back in the days when wars were won with the English War Bow, for modern archers this is were it all began. Very historically correct in detail. A must

OK book - adequate illustrations,
By danny boy "dbswongv" (Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: English Longbowman 1330-1515 (Warrior) (Paperback)
This book introduces the role and garb of an English longbow warrior. The text is merely there to support the illustrations. For 64 pages, you are not going to get a dissertation. Neither are the illustrations that great.
