This review is from: English Medieval House (Harper colophon books) (Paperback)
English Mediaeval House.

Margaret Wood leads us on a detailed journey in the evolution of the medieval house. Black and white illustrations and photos show all aspects of the medieval house from grand halls to humble sheds.

Chapters are devoted to single architectural features (such as roofs, doorways, windows and squints) following a summary covering the family's relationship to its neighbors, the status of various household members, area politics and the reasons for each type of architecture, whether for defence or other, living standards, even taste in decorations.

448 pages include a glossary, an extensive bibliography and a handy index.

A must for the historian's or writer's library.

Highly recommended.
