bought one before they added scanner, July 28, 2009
This review is from: Ectaco ER850 DELUXE Ectaco Partner ER850 Deluxe English-Russian Talking Electronic Dictionary Audio Phrasebook and Handheld Scanner (Electronics)
I can't speak absolutely about this model, but it looks like the same one I bought over a year ago, except it didn't have the scanner. I like the dictionary but it had way too many features that I never used. The fact that I shouldn't have paid for such an expensive one only became apparent after I used it for awhile. Now for the bad news. It's bigger than other e-dictionaries/translators. So forget about carrying it in a pocket unless you like having a bulky brick hanging from your pants, shirt, or taking up space in a purse or bag. The biggest downfall I had was the battery life. After I charged it to full, I used it until the battery was dead. I repeated this several times to see if it would avoid any problems. But after future charges, I could see it only has a battery life of a couple days. The device was powered off during this time. But even that didn't help it. So I was constantly with out it when I needed it. Cuz it was sitting on a desk somewhere being charged and I would have to remember to constantly throw it in a bag and then take it out again when I got home for another recharge. All in all not worth the money you spend for it. I'm shopping for a different one now, since this one was stolen while I was walking down a street in St. Petersburg. Thankfully, I don't have it around as a reminder of a poor purchase anymore. Hope the thief gets all the bad karma it brought me.
