5.0 out of 5 stars hand in glove
As a missionary for 13 years now (since '94) serving overseas with the Russian people, I couldn't DISAGREE with w.shriver's comments more. Unlike the modern versions, the KJV (Authorized Version) retains a lot of old English that has Russian equivalents: e.g. thee, thou, ye, you, ALL have equivalents. I was working on the Kamchatka peninsula with a student that also was...

This review is from: English-Russian Parallel Bible (Hardcover)
The good news: This is a well-designed Bible, with each page showing a column of English on the left of the page with the corresponding scriptures in Russian on the right side of the page.

The bad news: It is the "Authorized" version, i.e., the King James Version, and there appears to be no modern alternative to it, such as the Revised Standard Version, the New International Bible, or the superlative New American Standard Bible.

My poor, confused Ukrainian student wanted to know why every time he typed scripture from his Bible into Word for Windows, every few words were underlined in red by the spell-correct feature.

Although this would be a fine product for an Anglophone habituated to the language of King James, it is a real problem for Russian speakers trying to learn English. It is bad enough that written English and spoken English are two separate dialects; it is a calamity that a Bible student whose original language is Russian must also acquire a 400-year-old version of his or her new language!

Unlike the modern versions, the KJV (Authorized Version) retains a lot of old English that has Russian equivalents: e.g. thee, thou, ye, you, ALL have equivalents. I was working on the Kamchatka peninsula with a student that also was working with English and he was confused because as he put it, "there is SO much difference between the English and Russian texts." I learned that he had been trying to use a NIV and Synodal (Russian) together. I procured him a KJV and he returned a few days later with a smile. His words were, "It is like a hand in a glove!" If someone wishes to use an inferior modern translation in English (like the ASV) then they should pair it with a modern Russian version as well. Granted a dictionary is occasionally require with a few of the archaic words in the KJV (there are really not as many as some wish to say) but we are SUPPOSED to study!

Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Bible, December 2, 2011

So glad I got it, text is large and easy to read. The fact that the English and the Russian verses are right next to each other makes it very easy to read and compare both texts. It's got a nice hard cover, as well as two silky attached bookmarks inside. I use it a lot!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST!, October 29, 2008
This review is from: English-Russian Parallel Bible (Hardcover)
As a Missionary in Russia, I and all the Russians we have met are vey happy and thankful for this great Bible. The KJV is very much understood by our brethren here in and they truely admire this great Book! I thank the Lord for the KJV/Synodel Bible and plan to use it for years to come here in Russia. All other "modern" English versions are currupt and should never be trusted. The pages of the new modern (NKJV, NASV, NIV, ESV, etc.) make a good floor lining for a bird cage. If you want the best and the pure words of God, this KJV/Synodel Bible is for you. Praise the Lord!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased, January 10, 2012

My church purchased this Bible for a teenage girl who was visiting from the Ukraine for Christmas. We found it to be extremely helpful. She speaks little English, and I do not speak Russian; however, in church, I was able to look up the verses in English and she could read the Russian translation across the page. It was also very helpful for her to further her understanding of English. At times, she would read a chapter to me in Russian then go back and read it in English. Finally, and most importantly, because this Bible is the reliable English KJV and the Russian counterpart, I was confident in giving her this Bible, knowing that she was receiving the unadulterated truth. She trusted Christ as her personal Saviour during her brief visit(!), and certainly having the Word of God in her own language was vital to that decision.
