Review

Al-Qur'an is an excellent translation. I wish we had it 10 years ago and I could benefit from it during my school years. I teach in an Islamic School in my spare time, where I have prescribed this Translation as a Text Book to the adult class. Class is given an assignment of a few paragraphs based on theme of various topics. Students prepare a summary, point out the topics relating to our daily life. In the class we discuss those topics and the Guidance provided in them relating to our daily lives to learn the Qur'an in context. Each student is graded based on how good he/she prepared and explained. -- Hassan K. Igram, President, Cedar Graphics

I commend your efforts to build a bridge between the Muslim and non-Muslim community. As translated Al-Qur'an has already become very popular reading among my staff, I would like to request three additional copies. -- Rodeny Ellis, Texas State Senator, 'Chairman, Jurisprudence Committee'

I have read Al-Qur'an, The Guidance for mankind, from cover to cover. We, at our center, have compared your Translation with Allama Yusuf Ali, Dr. Asad and Dr. Muhsin and have concluded that your translation is the best Da'wah tool available to us in the United States. -- Dr. Aslam Abdullah, Editor-in-Chief, The Minaret

I have read your translation of Al-Qur'an and it gives me a great pleasure to mention that you have indeed accomplished a wonderful job. Furthermore, it is with great pleasure and honor to certify that I have proofread the revised edition of Al-Qur'an for more than once and Insha Allah to the best of my knowledge there is no error in this final manuscript. -- G. A. Khan, Reviewer of Abdullah Yusuf Ali Translation

I pray this letter finds you in the best of health and high Islamic spirits. We are very much interested to obtain a copy of Al-Qur'an: The Guidance for mankind, the new English Translation for our research library. Also with your permission and gratis support we can distribute copies to Masjid, Correction Institutions in the Louisville area, where there are many Muslim inmates who are craving for the Qur'ans. Also in the State of Kentucky there are quite a number of Muslim inmates in various other Correction Institutions looking for a copy of Al-Qur'an. -- Ibrahim B. Syed Ph.D., Islamic Research Foundation

My mother is visiting me here in South Africa. She lives in Canada and had the opportunity to attend ISNA's annual conference in Chicago. There she got "Al-Qur'an, The Guidance for mankind." I read Surah Ya-Sin as soon as I saw it. Alhumdulillah, what a beautiful translation. We have a small sisters halqa that meets weekly and your Translation is ideal for us. At present we are using Yusuf Ali, Maududis and Dayabadi's (May Allah bless them and grant them jannah for their work) but your summaries and notes are exactly what we are looking for. -- Fatima Bhyat, South Africa

We are brought up in an environment that we used to have the Translation, Commentary and Tafaseer for the Muslims only but here in America we not only need translation for Muslims but need in much larger number for Non-Muslims. Even for our Prison-Al-Dawah programs we have a demand in large number. Demand for the copies of the translation of the Qur'an is in millions and millions are ready to read and benefit from Al-Qur'an. There are libraries and schools who are looking to get the copies of the translation of the Qur'an. Al-Qur'an is an excellent translation in local American language. Our Houston Muslim Community is blessed by Allah (SW! T) to take this initiative and other Communities in the Unites Sates and Canada will participate and promote this Dawah activity, Insha Allah. -- Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed, Secretary General of ISNA

This is the most helpful Qur'an I have found for Ramadhan, being an American revert to Islam. The book is broken into the 30 Juz for daily reading. I have also purchased the book with the Arabic included as well in the hopes that someday I will be able to read the Holy Qur'an in the original Arabic words.
Each page has notes in the margins to help explain a bit about the history or focal point of the writing which is most helpful since I was not born and raised as a Muslim.
This book is truly a blessing for anyone wishing to understand and study the Qur'an. The translation is clear and easy to understand without flowery language. There are well explained definitions for the most commonly used arabic words and reference list at the back of the book.
I first found this book at a local library and I wish all libraries would have copies on hand.

If you're an American, this is the Qur'an for you. Good commentary, plus clear, easy to read text. I've purchased both the English and English-Arabic versions.

I have several Qurans and they are all great! However, this is in plain english, and is very easy to understand. He has written this translation with the new convert in mind, however, anyone who reads this wonderful Quran will be able to walk away with more knowledge.

May Allah reward him for his efforts...InshaAllah.

This edition of the Koran is filled with typographical errors. I also am not sure how accurate the translation is simply because of the editorial sloppiness of this edition. There are notes alongside each paragraph and sometimes the notes say things about the text that make me wonder if we read the same thing. The notes take liberty with what the text is saying. (How anyone can memorize the whole Koran is pretty mind boggling as it is the same size as The New Testament).

I have a copy of this already, I bought another for someone else. It really is one of the best English translations around. Very easy to read and understand as it uses modern English unlike other translations. It has introductory section going through each surah and the why and how it was revealed. The writing in Arabic is very clear. Its a nice big hard copy and looks very beautiful. It was recommended to me by a Quran teacher who has an extensive collection of different translations of the Quran from around the world and he named this one as the best one, when you read it and I think you will also agree. Also, a nice gift. I bought it for a friend and he was really chuffed. Shame you cant get it the UK though I had to get it shipped from the US, but it was worth it!

I am doing a comparative study between the thre Holy Books and I'll tell you what: i always look forward to reading this book. The pages are bright and beautiful, the transaction is wonderful and easy to relate to and the text itself is very moving.

However, as with any book the is the foundation of religion so far I have found one mistranslation in terms of not taking any Jews or Christians as your protecting fellows. The Qur'an plainly states that if a person is Jewish or Christians and believes in God and is a good person then they are ok. The issue is concerning non-believers. In the mistranslated line the translators have not included the word "some" as in: "some Jews and Christians should not be taken on as protecting friends" obviously only if they are non-believers.

Otherwise this version is fantastic and I enjoy it very much!

This is by far my favorite English translation of the Qur'an. The clear modern English makes the meaning more accessible to native English speakers, and the grouping of verses into paragraphs makes for easy reading and the main point(s) of each paragraph is summarized in the outside margin. The grouping into juz (30ths) makes for easy reading during Ramadan. The introductory opening to each sura gives the reader background information about the chapter.

This is the best presentation of the meaning of the Qur'an for dawah (outreach) to non-Muslims, and. It makes a great gift for new reverts as well. My father-in-law likes to follow along while listening to J.D. Hall's reading of this version online.

I like this particular Al Qur'an translation because I can understand the words pretty well. The writer uses modern daily English and in a simple way, so that we don't need to use a dictionary to understand the ancient words.
