The Holy Bible: English Version for the Deaf,
By
This review is from: English Version for the Deaf (Paperback)
If you are looking for "The Holy Bible: English Version for the Deaf" be VERY careful to see which ISBN # you are ordering. I ordered the above because I have an issue and wanted one for a friend of mine. When hers came it was TOTALLY different: in two volumes with plain white covers. They call the bible by the same name but apparently they quit printing the one voume edition with the nice maroon cover about 3 years ago. Here are the ISBN # to watch for:One volume edition with nice maroon cover, ISBN#0801043034 Two volume edition with plain, white covers, ISBN#0801065208 Buyer beware!!!!!

A good bible,

This is a good bible for for deaf interpreters as well as the deaf themselves. The deaf tend to take things literally, which in the bible can get quite confusing. This bible breaks it down and translates literal meanings of stories and parables. It is very helpful to get across the true meaning of what is being said. My wife, who is deaf, finds it very helpful in explaining concepts that the hearing take for granted. ...

We love using this Bible to memorize verses in ASL. It is easier to sign directly from the text, than trying to interpret everything in your head. My Deaf husband also uses this to compare with our regular NASB translation.I just wanted everyone to know this book is still available from www.wbtc.com, the original translaters and publishers. It is also sold under the name "Holy Bible: Easy-to-Read Version."

My favorite version for reading and reference,

This review is from: English Version for the Deaf (Paperback)
I have been studying the scriptures for 22 years, and have found that comparing translations helps me understand the meaning of passages more thoroughly. When I found the English Version for the Deaf, a/k/a the Easy to Read Version (EVD/ERV), I realized that I had the most useful tool yet for personal study and teaching. The EVD/ERV is not a paraphrase, it is an actual translation. The translators from the World Bible Publishing Center took up the task of producing a translation that was accurate, while working with the limited vocabulary set of most non-hearing and limited-English readers. The result is a translation that is in some ways better than a commentary. The simple language serves as its own explanation of the passage. At the same time, it makes kicking back in the recliner and just reading the Bible more enjoyable than ever. I teach the teen Sunday School class at my church. We do our study primarily from the NKJV, NIV, and NASB, but we keep a copy of the EVD/ERV on the table for reference. We compare verses regularly, and it helps my teens understand the gist of passage with less time spent explaining terms and arcane references. But most of all the EVD/ERV has broken down that intimidating "language wall" that most kids deal with when thinking of the scriptures. I recommend this version for your personal and family reading, as well as for use in class as a reference.

Not just for the deaf,
This review is from: English Version for the Deaf (Paperback)
I first started reading from this Bible about 2 years ago and found the interpretation extremely interesting and helpful. I purchased it to help me do a series of Sunday School lessons on Revelations.

Good but not chockful,
This review is from: English Version for the Deaf (Paperback)
This Bible for the Deaf is good for people who want to use this just for reading in the Old and New Testament. I wish this book has more, like maps, concordance, dictionary, etc. I rely on other Bibles for those extra "helps". That's why I give this product 3 stars.
